The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

It felt like fall last week but this week is warm and sunny again. Feels like we still have a little time.

I just had a set of revelations that showed me about a quarter of the story I’m writing for NaNo. Huh.

I still have no plot. What else is new?

I decided last week not to take “I have no plot” as an excuse so I sat down with the tiny germ of an idea and whacked it until I found a plot sliver. Building from there.

Currently I think I’m ripping off “A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream” and either “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” or “Tam Lin”.

ecurbh and I have been talking about it, and we started out this spring so shell-shocked from last winter I don’t think I’ve really recovered from that constant worry. I’m sitting here thinking of all the emergency prep we need to do before winter.

Hopefully we don’t have another winter like last. I ended up talking about the big storm a lot when I was home...what it was like living in a post-apocalyptic world. ;-)

I need to think of ways to make my place a bit more heat efficient. I don’t think there’s much else I can do to prepare...it’s just not exactly a sturdy building. :-\

We’re facing “voluntary” water restrictions again. But in other news, thebranch is off theroof.

Yes, hopefully we won’t have another one of those.

You might do some good by getting several bottles of that spray-in expanding foam we got for around your pipes and sticking it in any hole you can find. closing in around the base of the house would also help keep your pipes warmer.

And just use the heat... at least your high power bills are only a few months long :~)

heh. We had a sort of ethics training module here at work that told a story of some executive’s “missteps.” I think I saw that movie on the late, late, late show. I should use the plot for NaNo.

Heh...was it MST3K worthy?

I have a few fall-back plots I could use, but I’d *like* to come up with something original.

Heh. Yeah. Too bad they didn’t have a section at the end for comments.

Hello!

I’ve been making dr appointments. Found out the next test S has to take is on the 26th...thallium stress test. Early early in the morning. So I told him to take the whole day off and I scheduled a dental cleaning and a vision screening for him on the same day.

I figured you never know when your insurance might be jerked out from under you...I’m taking it for all it’s worth while I can! Heh! I got the boys’ teeth cleaned last week and I’m going back to the doctor that put the plugs in my eyes for a follow up and probably new plugs and also getting my teeth cleaned then the next day I’m getting a mammogram!

We had a $500 family deductible...J’s speech therapy took care of that so now all I have to contend with is co-pays.

Heh heh...

I’m trying to figure out how to get S to a chiropractor. I’ve never been a fan but since he sprained his ankle so bad a couple of years back he just looks like he’s curving over. It seems like he started doing it when he was limping on that ankle and never straightened back up. I told him so and told him so, but he kept telling me I was imagining it.

Then, we went to the VW Club campout...remember that? One of the guys there suddenly blurted out “Why are you all hunched over like that?”

Since then he’s made an effort to stand upright, but if he’s not just thinking about it, he goes back to hunched over.

All I can think is maybe he’s out of everloving alignment or something!!!

I tell you what. They yanked our coverage and then gave it back, then the doc ordered a test and it was denied.

All righty then.

I’m just lookin’ for reasons to go to the doctor. My deductible is paid, as I say. The co-pay is nothin’.

Have y’all already gotten reservations for a place to stay in Tokyo? I could ask my friend for suggestions.

Yeah, we’re going through the travel service Talon used last time he went to Japan. Flights, hotels, and train pass all in one package. We just told them what we wanted - four nights in Tokyo, three in Kyoto - and they make it happen.

Heh...we coulda taken a similar picture of my sister’s dog. She thought the pad made a dandy bed.

We discussed the possibility of teaching her how to really use it, considering she’s really, really smart...but decided she’d have an unfair advantage, what with the extra two legs and all...
