Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
It’d be even scarier if he blended into a wallpaper pattern.
That would be the new French camo:
Aaaaaaggghhh!!
Aaaaay wooo lack un amboooglaaaaah!
Ugh. I have to go to work and sleep. We did a lot this weekend. Tiled the bar, painted the back door and the front step, ripped up half the carpet on the stairs and took down the side panel on the right side of the basement stairs. That really opened out the whole room. We’re discussing building a half wall or counter across that opening as the first step in finishing the other half of the basement.
But I’m exhuasted.
The weather was gorgeous this weekend, and will continue to be so this week, so we're hoping to get a lot of prep work done for the back yard and the decks.
That's it!

Mornin' folkses!
Just very briefly stopping in before work...
I made it back from my travels OK. Had a little bit of a rough ending in that my flight into JFK was delayed and I had to run full tilt to get to the plane, which of course was at a gate at the far end of the terminal. They were already making the final boarding call when I was only halfway to the gate, so I figured I’d missed it, which would have been par for the course for JFK. I dunno why, but that airport is jinxed for me. EVERY time I go through there I have something like this happen, so I wasn’t surprised, just annoyed. ;-) But they let me on. They gave me a new seat number at the gate, but that one was taken too, so I had to stand there for a lonnnng time while the stewardesses decided where to stick me. I ended up next to a guy who had really, really broad shoulders. I think he was more uncomfortable about it than I was, poor guy. Made for a long flight, but I got back OK. We got in early - 11:20 AM instead of 11:45. But the baggage carousel didn’t start until about 12:30 - so much for the extra time! And I stood there and stood there and stood there, and finally the bags stopped coming. I kinda figured that was going to be the case. They’re supposed to delivery it to me at work today.
Other than that, the visit went well! I’m going to be a little homesick for awhile, I think. You can’t live in a town for two-thirds of your life and not feel attached to it, especially to the people you’ve known since you were little. Playing music on Friday night was probably the highlight of my week - it was sooooo good to see those folks again! I’m really going to miss them. And it was just neat being able to go anywhere at all and bump into friends. That’s both good and bad, I know! We got to eat at a lot of places I remembered fondly, check out the changes made to certain parts of certain towns, did some shopping and visiting, plus made it down to Thomas More College to see my brother Bill and take him out to dinner one night.
I mostly hung out with Margaret as she’s working from home doing violin repairs and all that. Not too many others at home these days, really - just my littlest sister Teresa. And my brother Jim was there for a few days. Really good to see him again. Actually, it was primarily the subset of my siblings that I get along best with, now I think about it. ;-) We went on a couple of longish bike rides (I rented a bike from their really, really nice shop), went to music night together, and did a lot of hanging out just talking and talking. They also introduced me to the madness that is DDR - they have a generic computer version of the game that we *finally* got working in Vista after a day or so of tinkering. I have no coordination, but it’s still a fun concept. Now I have lots of strange Japanese songs stuck in my head, though. :-\
Sorry it didn’t work out to meet up, Suzi! We had pretty extensive plans for Friday, and then ended up having company on Saturday, plus I had a few last minute things to do. But hopefully it won’t take me two whole years before I go back...on the other hand if you sell the house, NH won’t be a moot point. ;-) But we’ll moot again, don’t know where, don’t know when...
Thanks again to Hair and ecurbh for takin’ care of my pooch and the cats! It was much appreciated!
Terrific that you were able to get to music night, and get to do some riding. Don't know about the Northeast Kingdom, but we're getting some pretty colors in the trees already down here!
Before Clare left to go back to school, she shipped our heavy duty DDR metal pads down to Ave Maria. They're going to have an arcade night to raise money for the kids going to World Youth Day in Australia next year! She said that she and a few others have been trying the pads out. Gotta make sure they made trip ok, you know! ;o)
Sounds like a most excellent adventure. :-)
I may ask for a cheap DDR pad for my birthday. ;-) They just had one of the basic soft kind, and not a very fancy brand at that, but it seemed to work OK. My guess is that the metal ones are far more sensitive and also a lot better for heavy use, but considering I was having trouble with one button at a time, I wouldn’t be doing anything too complicated for awhile...
We had some fall color, though it’s still far from peak! Wish I could have stayed awhile longer, but that’s probably a sign the visit was about the right length!
Sounds like you had a great time! I’m glad you got the chance to make the trip...
Talon and I have finally got our trip to Japan arranged; unless we have another change, we’re going in mid October. Yay!
Suzi, I seem to recall that when you went to Japan you shopped at the housewares shopping district in Tokyo... am I right? Which district was it? We’re making our list of where to shop and while we intend to hit Akihabara for the geek stuff, we want to buy household-y things too...
The household shopping place was Kappabashi, but I don’t remember in which area of Tokyo it was.
Hey... check out what’s coming to Lacey pretty soon:
