Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Well, Rosie Cotton should be on her way back to the Hobbit Hole compound in WA! She mentioned the other day that she had an early flight.
Nothing "plain" about that couch. The boots were what caught my eye first, then I followed them up to the rest of the guy.
I definitely think the acres of Velcro on the uniform sucks, and I'm not sold on the cut of the uniform. But the camo pattern itself seems to work as advertised. I haven't seen one in real life in a tactical situation, so that comment may still be amended.
I guess the Army went with two shades of gray, and one of tan, in order to do away with any black in the pattern. Black is not natural in any kind of foliage. Black, according to Natick Labs, tends to increase contrast, and attract the eye. The idea is to "fuzz" the image by making edges indistinct. The brain first recognizes things by shape, and then looks harder to make sure the shape seen really is what it's seen to be.
Psychology also says that the human face is the easiest thing for the eye to spot, followed by hands. That's why face paint or a sniper veil, and non-contrasty gloves, are the first order of business for any serious sniper.
Depends on how many ugly couches our soldiers will find 'in country'. ;o)
Seriesly, the new patterns look kinda pixillated and funky close up, but they sure seem to do the job at a distance! I certainly didn't notice the soldier when I first saw the picture, but then took a closer look when I read your note above the picture.
Rain....thunder....
Hope we get more wet stuff than we did yesterday.
I think thenewheater and the ceiling fan will work well this winter. Wonder if I can keep it warm enough in there for ‘maters to set fruit.
Painted the front step. Taped the back door and am ready to paint it. It’s a beautiful sunny day here and we’ve been getting random stuff done this weekend like the bar top so I might as well continue.
Yeah...keep going while you’re in the groove. :)
I patched little nail holes in the computer room yesterday. It must have been a kid’s room or something with posters pinned everywhere. The next two projects are overseeding the lawn and painting the computer room. Guess I’d better go buy some grass seed tomorrow.
That did not take long... what shall I do next?
A brief break is in order, I was supposed to be doing homework while Talon was at the office, not housework.
Guess you should do homework. :)
Afternoon G’nad - hit the club show this a.m. there were some very reasonable prices on stuff and handguns moved pretty well. It’s easier to impulse when permits are a thing of the past. I settled on one magazine for my 10-22 and a ten pack of Brenneke slugs.
Afternoon OT - how’s the races? Yup one clap of thunder and fourteen drops of rain. Knew it would rain, LSA washed her Tucson. We were hoping for more though. Gypsygirl seems to think there is more but we’re not convinced yet...
Afternoon Rose - heh, didn’t notice it till you called it to my attention. The venerable 30/30. Better ping ecurbh, he’s the one that has a 30/30.
Race was okay...Junior finished 15th.
Yeah, you’d think we’d get more rain after I watered stuff this morning.
The new pattern works great - vey effective in MOUT. To wit causes a bit of a traffic hazzard in front of the PX on post 'cuz the Ordnance school students love to jaywalk over to the commissary and the drivers have a hard time seeing them.
Here are some open source pics from Army.mil of the camo in action:
...and they’re all set in case they have to bust into a house with tacky furniture.
Do what the Air Force does, make them wear reflective belts. EVERYWHERE.
That last picture is positively scary. The troops furthest away just seem to disappear. I can see where a shiny new black weapon can compromise the overall effect.
Oh, the lag monster gave me the impression the thread was still dead. Belay that last. *sheepish*
I vote for vests in hunter orange. Seriesly, there's a corner where the kids stand before crossing the street, and you *don't* see them until you're right on them or if they move.
It is an amazing picture. I think I’ll take it to work and post it on the bulletin board of humorous items.
