Circumcision May Not Reduce Sensation
ABC News ^ | 2 August 2007 | JOSEPH BROWNSTEIN

Controversial new research casts doubt on the long-held belief that circumcision reduces sexual sensitivity for men who have undergone the procedure.

Circumcision, a procedure performed throughout history — for reasons ranging from the fulfillment of a biblical covenant to a means of curbing masturbation — has received both praise by those who tout its supposed medical benefits and scorn from those who claim it has traumatic aftereffects.

Now, in a Canadian study appearing in the most recent issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, researchers found that the glans, or head of the penis, is just as sensitive on a circumcised man as on an uncircumcised one.

Read “Last Emperor of China”. A man kidnapped by history.

Amazing how corrupt and decadent the Chinese nobility had become. Read “Dream of the Red Chamber” and you will understand why they fell so easily to the British and then to the Communists.

I had it done when I was about 3 or 4 years old, funny I had forgotten all about it until I read this article.

They put me under anesthesia, it was quite the production.

There are a few threads on Free Republic that can cause fireworks. These are, IMHO:

5. The War of Northern Aggression.

6. Anything to do with evolution.

7. Anything about Mormonism.

I remember that story. They used a machine for his circumcision. Eventually he committed suicide, I think.

Eunichs used to save their missing parts in a little bag so that they could be buried “whole”.

But... don't those parts already come in a bag?

I don’t know the rate of complication. But I know a lot of parents with sons who’ve had the same complication as mine, and a urologist told us it’s very common today because less foreskin is removed. “Adhesions” can form after circumcision, and in the worst cases, it can heal with skin bridges, which become very painful as the boy grows older. When he was an infant, the pediatricians kept shrugging our concerns off. One said, “Some just look like that.” For years, I was so upset because it looked like a deformity. Finally, I researched it myself using the internet when he was six, and we had him to a specialist right away. He had to be re-circumcised. It took weeks to fully recover, but he was lucky. I read that many grown men suffer with skin bridges, never knowing that it can be repaired.

Two generations ago, it wasn’t the norm among non-Jews in America. My father recommended not to circumcise. But I’m relieved to hear we probably made the right decision to circumcise. See my post above - for years, I felt terrible about it. Our other children had no complications, though.

Sorry to hear that. Thanks for the report. It would seem the dangers of leaving too much skin would be reported out by the AMA. The physician on this thread stated that he hadn’t heard of any complications during his career on the east coast. I wonder why different reports are voiced here. Interesting...

I’ll place the opinions of armchair physicians in the appropriate circular file.

Thank you. You can return to your cubicle with your pocket protector in place. Another job well done junior.

And I’ll put the opinion of someone who thinks correlation is causation where?

I don’t see the ick factor in an uncircumcised one. It just looks like it’s wearing a turtle neck.

I’m pretty sure circumcision beats the pants off most penile sensations. Just not in a good way.

I would love to know what the US Military’s rules were over the years regarding this.

My understanding from a much older woman (widow) is that after her husband was drafted, he was cir’cd b/c it was mandatory for military service; I don’t know if that is true or when the rule was changed.
