2007 (College Football News) Big East Preview--They're the Big Least No More
College Football News ^ | 31 July 2007 | Richard Cirminiello

Last season was a body blow for all the Big East detractors who felt the league had no business getting a highly-coveted automatic BCS bowl berth. Almost half of the conference’s members finished the season ranked in the top 12 and it left a lasting off-season impression with a 5-0 bowl record. With the returns of Heisman contenders Brian Brohm, Steve Slaton, Pat White and Ray Rice, prepare for an encore performance.

Forget all the talk about the demise of the Big East. It’s over, as long as no more schools bolt for greener pastures. The league has two budding national powers in West Virginia and Louisville, two programs—Rutgers and South Florida—with enormous upsides, a second division that’ll be more competitive and a wicked head of steam.

The Mountaineers and Cardinals are once again the heavy favorites to win the league and contend as trendy picks to be the fly in the national title game ointment. While both offenses will be unstoppable, the development of their defenses will determine just how far they go.

See what I mean? You have to go back 13-14 years to the last century to find any success against us. Probably the funniest thing I remember about the 2006 Sugar Bowl is reading all of the arrogant comments by the Georgia fans preceding it and all of the shots of the stunned and crying Gerogia fans during the game.

Right...you won the game by three lousy points (same as last year's bowl against an under-rated Georgia Tech team). My biggest thrill was watching Notre Dame take you Hill Williams apart for the national championship when you had Major Harris (now a private) at the controls--prediction: Same thing will happen to Pat White!

Look at the Avg. SEC offensive line. 300lbs. or more is not that special. Congrats on the good recruit though.

You're talking about twenty year old men and the weight they developed after three or four years in a Division 1 training/nutrition environment. I'm talking about a 16 year old kid, with a year of high school football still ahead of him. There's plenty of room to grow bigger, stronger, and faster.

Also, I'm not just looking at the weight, I'm looking at the offers he turned down - Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State, etc. Three years ago, Rutgers was losing recruits to the likes of Temple and Bucknell. Things have gotten better.

Congrats on the good recruit though.

Gracias!

“Has there ever been a year that Louisville didn’t have a “Brohm” on their roster?”

Its the same guy, he just hasn’t graduated, yet!
