Three motorcycle riders are hospitalized in stable condition after a run-in with a bear in St. Johns County.

State troopers say the bear ran in front of the bikers Sunday on I-95 near State Road 207.

The animal was killed when the motorcycles slammed into it.

My fiancee was supposed to be on that ride (It's a ladies riding group). I asked her not to go, as she doesn't like for me to ride at night in the rain...

All the riders are doing as well as can be expected. The bear and some of the bikes don't look so good.

That kind of comment is hard to bear.

Never came close to hitting a bear, although I have seen deer fly...from the fender of a Bronco.

I almost hit a black bear while riding across the interior of Nova Scotia after dark, a couple of years ago. We were running late and moving along at somewhat faster than the posted limit, and then I saw something in the road ahead, when I was quite close to it. Black bears are hard to see at night - they’re black. I zigged to the right a bit and got around it, scaring it off the road before the two people following me reached it. Don’t know what it was doing there, but I’m sure glad I didn’t hit - if I hadn’t killed it I would have been lying on the road dealing with one seriously peeved bear.

I Googled I-95 and St. Johns County and I think it's in Florida; I could be wrong though. I-95 runs along the east coast.

This was almost in my back yard. It may be better than hitting a big gator, but not by much.

Do deer whistles work for bears?

(This is NOT a cross species dating question!)

I’m installing deer whistles after missing one by a whisker this morning.
I thought I’d hit it, but no sound and it bounded on through the trees.

Ugh. I've had a near miss with a shoulder higher than my handgrips last year.

Try to get your hands on some of the bear meat.

Munching on the critter you nailed is good for morale in the hospital.

Do deer whistles work for bears?

No, nor do they work for deer.

Fish and Wildlife picked up the bear...

And from the pics I saw the bear meat would be full of plexiglass anyway.

Do deer whistles work for bears?

I have to plead ignorance on this one. I've no idea at all.
