Shocking charges; Indictment against Vick describes unfathomable acts

During an April raid of Vick's property in Virginia, authorities seized 66 dogs and equipment commonly used in dog fighting.

The indictment handed down Tuesday against Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and three others describes in detail how they procured a property in Virginia for the purpose of staging dogfights, bought dogs and then fought them there, and in several other states, over a 6-year period. With at least three cooperating witnesses providing the details, federal authorities compiled a detailed case that traces the birth and rise of Bad Newz Kennels.

But not a single line in the 18-page indictment will generate more rage toward Vick and the others charged -- Purnell A. Peace, Quanis L. Phillips and Tony Taylor -- than a sentence near the end. It reads: "In or about April of 2007, Peace, Phillips and Vick executed approximately eight dogs that did not perform well in 'testing' sessions at 1915 Moonlight Road by various methods, including hanging, drowning and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground."

Please clarify - are you saying that dog fighting is OK but should be kept secretive? What is the motive for that?

"..executed approximately eight dogs that did not perform well.."

Say...Didn't the former slave owners do that to slaves?

Or at least that is what the NAALCP would have us believe happened.

How long before they lawyer plays the Race Card?...........

I heard that quite a few callers to radio shows in Atlanta were saying that Vick was a victim as "The Man" was out to get him.

Can any Hot-lanta FReepers confirm that?

Oh yeah, there is definitely a segment of the local black population who say that about every troubled black athlete, and are doing so with Vick. But I would hasten to add that many many blacks are quite appalled by these allegations and are tired of the Michael Vick Act, and are saying so publicly. No doubt both the media and the lawyers will play up the conspiracy-theory blacks though.

I’ve pretty much had one of everything. I’ve come to the conclusion that american cars are better than people give them credit for. And they are certainly better deals, the dealerships are more willing to negotiate.

I will say one thing for honda though, their motors will outlast anything else comparable on the road. I’ve been a fan of honda since my first honda motorcycle, a 1964 honda sport. Its’ too bad the rest of the car falls apart and that parts are such a ripoff.

Chevy pickups from the eighties and nineties are outstanding. You can’t ask for a cheaper motor to maintain than a 350chevy. Fuel consumption is a different matter though. I think ford’s big old six banger that they discontinued in the early nineties was slightly better than the 350chevy, although less powerful. But they started to get rare about 1990 and ford’s pickup quality started slipping around 1980. Another wonderful six banger...the cummins 5.9L.

Even that is being too kind.

The dogs often fight in near silence, exhausted and trying to survive. But the people grow louder as they see the blood flow. -------------------- Photos courtesy of the Humane Society of the United States Fans lie on the floor after officers raided a dogfight in Marked Tree, Ark. Crowds at such spectacles include men, women and children.

I say to each his own so long as it does not infringe upon my freedoms. Pit bull fighting has been primarily a southern man’s avocation and historically has never been attacked for the brutal sport it indeed is until left thinking hysterics began demanding that the hard hand of government should force an end to another man’s avocation having absolutely no effect on the lives of of others. On the list of priorities of those newsworthy matters of greatest public importance, this story is a diversion, a non starter.

Or it could take just one dog-loving linebacker or safety end his career. ;~))

Generally, I wouldn't have any 'problem' with dogfighting if it weren't for the cruelty these dogs are subjected to before, during and after the fights. As others have said, dogs will be dogs and they do have fighting (protective) instincts. However the recent years have seen these so-called "dog breeders" breeding in even more nastiness to the temperament, which is troubling to the "legit" dog world in general.

But if you are defending the behavior of these "breeders" even for the type of treatment they subject these dogs to to make them "tough in the ring" (starving, tying them up to car axles, etc.), the "rape stand" (looks like some medieval instrument of torture), not to mention shooting them in the head simply because they don't win, then I have nothing more to say to you on this forum.

Not quite. Ford had a change in design starting with the 1968 model year. 1968 through 1978 I beleive was the run for that particular design. I could be off by a year or two. A 1968 version would be perfect, but I’d settle for a 69 or even a 70 if it was equipped just as I want it and in good shape.

I also saw a ‘68 short box F-100 on eBay with a V-8 and 3-on-the-tree.

Boy that is a nice one though. I’d be inclined to buy it anyway if the price was lower. Trucks of that kind and condition generally go for about 3K I believe. The price seems a little steep to me. If that were just a couple/three years newer I’da jumped on it I think. I looked for years for the truck I described and kinda gave up about 2 or 3 years ago. I never looked on ebay though.

Seems like people scrap the six when restoring an old truck and put in a V8 with an auto tranny, or else they use parts off an old six banger truck to restore their V8 truck then junk what’s left over. That’s what makes it so hard to find a good six banger. 4wheel drive gets preference too.

The other thing I really hate is a truck that’s been lowered and got wide racing tires and rims on it. People who do that to a good old truck should be ashamed of themselves.

The rape stand is necessary for dogs that have been trained to kill each other. How do you breed your prized pit dogs when they would rather bite off and eat each others genitalia than copulate? The answer is the rape stand. I wonder if they also have to save the pups from their mother once they are born? It wouldn’t surprise me.

I have mixed feelings about this sudden outrage against dog fighting. I think the answer is not to ban it, but to regulate it. Get it out in the open and put controls on it. Dogs should not fight to the death. A judge(or group of judges) should decide the winner. Breeders should be subject to spot inspections and should be licensed. It should be run like ultimate fighting.

I have no problem with cock fighting. What do I care if two stupid birds fight to the death? It’s a dam chicken for crying out loud. If they don’t kill each other, it’ll get fried up and eaten by you and me. He11, the loser birds could be fed to the winner pit bulls.

I see a danger in our culture becoming too civilized. We need to keep ourselves grounded in reality and reality is the world is a tough place. If you aren’t willing to kill for what’s important to you, then someone else that is will move in and take over for you.
