Mmmmmm.....Beer-sicle

It sounds like it might be just thing for a hot day -- the beer-sicle.

But a suburban Washington restaurant is catching some heat from Virginia liquor authorities. Frank Morales began selling beer pops last week at his Rustico Restaurant in Alexandria. The frozen beer pops come shaped like a traditional Popsicle for four bucks, or a larger beer cone for six.

But the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control tells the A-P the beer-sicles may violate state regulations. The regs require that beer be served in its original container or served to the customer immediately once it's poured. The department plans to send an agent to investigate.

The people at the restaurant say they're working on a way to keep serving their beer pops, while complying with the law.

Translation: You have to keep the beer-sicle sales "on the down-low".

I was thinking: why not just freeze the beer in its own stein? The law doesn’t seem to specify at what temperature it’s to be served ;o)

Some places have champagne popsicles. If you can drink it in a liquid version, you should be able to eat it frozen.

P.S. A teetotaler personally, but alcoholic (drinks and popsicles) shouldn't be illegal for those who do consume alcohol (legally and responsibly).

They could pour it into liquid nitrogen cooled cups (insulated on the outside and with a stick in the middle). Once poured, it should freeze fast, and the customer can pull the stick and have a popsicle.

I’ve had unintentional beer pops out of my freezer trying to cool them down and forgetting about them.

Yeah three types:

1. In a can - great, I can just squeeze it out like Popeye does his spinach.

2. In a bottle (unshattered) - more difficult, I can poke around with a chopstick and eventually work it all out.

3. In a bottle (shattered) - I’m completely hosed and the wife will laugh at me as I curse and clean out the freezer without any beer to enjoy.

Yep. Bottle is worst. My hubs in your wife’s place, eyeing me and shaking his head...

The regs require that beer be served in its original container or served to the customer immediately once it's poured.

This regulation is necessary why – to protect us stale beer or from surly bar maids who might spit in our brewski?

The department (Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control) plans to send an agent to investigate.

I feel safer already knowing we are being protected from beer-sicles. Meanwhile our government doesn’t seem much interested in protecting us from purposely poisoned products from China……

ROTFLMAO! Wait, that’s really a good point that you’re making - but it is funny, too!
