Actually this list itself ain't bad, it's just most of the songs that are [deleted]. But not all, of course -- there's plenty of yacht rock to love. And who better to rank these tunes than VH1? There must be some holdovers from before the celebreality pox. Tomorrow night, Video Hits 1 will air their televised countdown of the Top 40 soft rock tunes, but go ahead and take a gander now and see if they hit the Marx.

Say what you will about this list, but we're with #1 (love us some Chris Cross). Also, whatever happened to the Yacht Rock guys? Weren't they developing something for VH1? Maybe they'll talk about it when it airs tomorrow. Too bad we won't be watching.

Gold was (is) a fine guitarist and excellent arranger/producer. He produced and did the guitar work for Ronstadt's "Heart Like a Wheel." His father wrote the them song to "Exodus." His mother sang in big Hollywood movies for lip-synching actresses who couldn't sing.
He joined up with a 10cc guy in the 1980s to form Wax. They had some up-charge hits UK-wide ("Systematic," "Right Between the Eyes").
If we're looking for soft-pop schmaltz, why isn't Dan Fogleberg this list?

I have to admit, Roger Whittaker is a guilty pleasure. There is just something about his voice. And the lyrics are pretty cool, too. His Christmas songs are the best. Save this post for I will never admit this in public again.
