(2007-05-20) Just a day after former President Jimmy Carter told reporters that the Bush administration is the worst in history the current White House President called Mr. Carter the best former president ever.
I know that President Carter and I have had our differences, said Mr. Bush, But I think most Americans will agree with me that hes a terrific ex-president. Things have never been better since Jimmy Carter left office.
Mr. Bush pointed to an array of improvements, including a stable growing economy, lower taxes, reduced inflation and unemployment and increased American strength and preparedness all of which he associated with Mr. Carters years as a former president.
I think history will judge President Carters post-White House tenure favorably, said Mr. Bush, As a former president, Mr. Carter has overseen the nations longest period of expansion and growth in opportunity.

The monitors were complaining that so many were misreading this piece and didn’t see the satire. They had threatened to pull the thread. Maybe it will do better now since on Mondays many are still stuned ffrom the weekend activities.

Nice backhand, there. What everyone is going to miss is how tongue-in-cheek this statement is:
1. Terrific "ex-president", not terrific president. Translation: We're all happy he's gone.
2. Things have never been better since Jimmy Carter left office. Translation: Once again, glad he's gone. Things have been better ever since.

Carter says he should have avoided the question now, that his statement was careless OR misinterpreted and worst administration in history was only in comparison to the Nixon administration. Wafflewafflewafflewaffle...some hings never change.
