A NEW analysis of remaining bullet fragments from the 1963 assassination of US president John F Kennedy suggests a second shooter may have been involved.
The findings suggest the prevailing theory that a sole gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald, killed Kennedy is wrong, according to a research team that published its findings yesterday.
The researchers "show that evidence used to rule out a second assassin is fundamentally flawed," wrote William Tobin, the main author of the report, published in the latest issue of the Annals of Applied Statistics.
Mr Tobin, a former FBI agent and forensic scientist, teamed with bullet lead analysis expert Cliff Spiegelman of Texas A & M University to re-examine the five bullet fragments recovered after Kennedy's assassination, using new scientific advances.
The findings countered testimony to the House Select Committee on Assassinations hearing in 1978 in which Dr Vincent Guinn said the bullet fragments recovered signalled that two bullets of an unusual kind of ammunition were used.

While he wasn't an outstanding marksman in the service he was a Marine and there's no Marine that's an untrained shooter.
I would also observe that having seen the setting in person I've never seen a video or a photograph that accurately represents how close in everything is. As an average marksman my first thought was "with a round chambered I could do that". True I've never fired a Mannlicher-Carcano but I just don't see it being as hard as some have portrayed it.
Or they could NOT have come from three or more separate bullets. Note carefully that these researchers are NOT claiming that their analysis demonstrates that the bullet fragments did in fact come from three or more separate bullets.
If that is the case, "then a second assassin is likely, as an additional bullet would not be attributable to the main suspect, Mr Oswald," the report said.
Note the "if that is the case" language - they are saying that IF something is true which their study does NOT in fact actually claim to demonstrate is true (i.e., that the fragments must have come from three or more separate bullets), then two shooters are likely. The "if that is the case" language makes this statement meaningless, because the researchers have not demonstrated that "it is the case."
"We believe there is no scientific basis from the fragment matching performed by Dr Guinn to conclude that only two bullets were the sources of the assassination fragments."
Although it is possible that only two bullets were the source; they are saying merely that this one particular test made did not in and of itself prove that to be the case.

Oswald was a trained shooter, he was Marine and they ALL can shoot and well. Yet then I have to believe that in an incredibly short time (7 seconds) Oswald missed his 1st two shots, but scored on the last very hurried one.

If you study the period, you wil see that JFK led the US into a position of weakness that was alarming, in Cuba (Missile crisis, pigs bay fiasco) and Vietnam (JFK wanted to leave in the autumn of 1963).
The US establishment wanted to eliminate a dangerous guy. They did it.
I’m not a conspiracy lover, I deeply respect the American government, but after having been to Dallas and visiting Dealey Plaza, you cannot say the official version is true...
And I remind you : the House Select Committe on Assassination said OFFICIALLY that JFK was likely killed by a conspiracy.
That would be 2013. Unfortunately, the Mayan calendar shows the world ending in 2012, so I guess we'll never find out.
