Did anyone get this email about May 15 2007? On this day, the email states that there is going to be a walk out on buying gas, throughout the U.S.A..
In my opinion and the way gas prices are sky rocketing in the United States, this is a great idea! Lets show these politicians and oil companies who is really in charge, us! Lets all banned together, and show them how we can control the price of gas too!
May 15 2007
1. Everyone in the U.S. does not buy gas for one whole day! Gas up a couple of days before May 15.
2. Same goes for Natural and Propane gas, don't use it for the whole day.
If we don't make a stand now, it will be too late!
This isn't even a battle. Look up "Gas Out" on Snopes.com and see why.
Or take an Economics class.
>>Scariest part is these idiots vote.<<
I’d be concerned that I’m on the road with her at all!
No, balboa, it's an old idea because it doesn't pass the logic test. Take a minute and think about what we're telling you. Not buying gas on a specific day just means you buy it on another day. No reduction in gas sales, hence no impact on prices. If you want to have an impact, however small, then stop driving altogether. That would actually reduce the amount of gas purchased and increase the total amount available for others to buy. That's how prices actually come down--reduction of demand.
Come up with ways, ideas, this is how things get done.
I've just given you one that actually works. Let me know what you think about it.
Oh pleeeeeze.
Gas prices always go up in May for the summer blends and the on set of the summer vacation....get a grip.
Well, if you have been paying attention here on FR, you would know that the biggest reasons for the price rise are:
1. Politicians bowing to environmental pressure. Most of our own crude is off limits, thanks to environmental regulation.
What do we here at FR do? Most of us have bombarded our politicians with correspondence demanding that they allow us to use our own crude.
2. Refining capacity is nearly maxed out as we have not built a new refinery in over 30 years. Why? Environmentalists and the NIMBY people. Again, we here at FR have called for years for new refineries to be built.
3. Speaking of refineries, environmental regulations require that gas formulations be changed from winter blends to summer blends, with some 30+ different types of blends being mandated. Result: Refineries go off line for a short period of time each year (usually in the early Spring) to gear up for the mandated blends.
4. A little research would show that the profit margin for oil companies, per gallon, is anywhere from 8 to 20 cents. Even if we took all their profit, it would be a minor dent. Now, take the TAXES (i.e. politicians) on gas out and were talking something significant.
Eventually American ingenuity will come up with an alternative that will TRULY work, that will make us self sufficient and cost effective, something ethanol is not.
I could go on but your premise that we are not doing anything? Could not be farther from the truth. It is not the oil companies alone. It is our politicians that have endangered all of us by causing our country to become dependent on foreign oil. Not buying gas for one day? Well, if it makes you feel good, then do it. Just realize it will have zero affect.
She was the type who would be text messaging and putting on make up while changing lanes at about 20 MPH over the speed limit.
Unless you do what I do.
Walk to the corner gas station and buy Diet Coke.
I love the couple that own that station. Nice Chaldean Catholics. They have their modest car parked in the front with lovely rosaries hanging from the mirror.
Their station stays open 24 hours. At any time of the day or night, one of them is there. When I buy gas, I will pay a penny or two more to buy from them. If I don’t buy gas, we’ll walk up for snacks.
Truely hard working nice people!
Listen when people explain to you why your idea won't work. I understand that you're upset and frustrated, but emotional ranting doesn't constitute a solution. If you're really interested in doing something about the problem, listen to the people here who understand economics, and consider their ideas. And I concur with the FReeper who suggested you read Thomas Sowell's book "Basic Economics". It's the best education there is on how the market actually works.
YIKES!
God Bless the mom and pops!
Not to mention federal regulation for boutique blends of gas for every 100ft. change in elevation and 5ºF difference in seasonal temps depending on the county you live in.
Yes, I got this, just as I got it the year before and the other year.
1st up, I’m sick of people thinking it’s “gouging” and getting after businesses for RAISING prices, but noone has THANKED them for LOWERING the prices when that did, indeed, happen.
2nd, let’s turn attention to all the communist regulations that are more likely to lead to this kind of price-jacking in the 1st place. EnviroMENTAL regulations up the gumpstump, not allowing new refineries to be built, and not allowing ANWAR or off-shore drilling. These are the SAME people who like to say we shouldn’t be depending on ARAB oil - but they hamstring us!
3rd, 1 day of “protest” is meaningless.
Most of us never need to fill up every day, so that is no sacrifice when many wouldn’t need to get gas on the 15th as it would turn out. That’s like boycotting Wal-Mart, but you never shop there anyway. Big deal.
If you’re going to make an impact, you need to at least use the time period people go without filling up. At least a week. To be a true sacrifice - you’d need at least 2 weeks.
But then, you’ll be hamstringing yourself! Fat chance so many are so high & mighty that they’ll do without gasoline for a month or so.
So, this 1-day protest is specious smoke&mirrors.
Amen.
And they are suffering more than the rest of us. The franchise they have charges more per gallon than the one up the street. They run specials on snacks and give away free coffee to get you in. Pitifully, many drive by.
I don’t.
Hear hear!
Also, stop electing Republicans that are afraid the media might say something mean about them if they stand up to the environMENTAL wackos.
Good to see a left-leaning website has its head on somewhat straight and isn’t just a moll for this kind of leftist feel-good fantasy tripe.
But you’re being too logical.
BORING!!!!
Have you SEEN the price of printer ink? We are being gouged at Office Depot!!! Series!!!!! REALLY!!!!!!!
