With the news changing daily about the tainted pet food, Arizona Carolyn and I are starting a ping list to be published on her profile page. Please let us know if you would like to be included. I will not be able to respond until later today and over the weekend.
“As with anything else, the mfr wants to lessen his production costs.”
“THE CONTAMINATED RECALLED PET FOODS HAD BEEN SOLD TO A HOG FARM AS WASTE FOOD.”
Logical train of thought.....or slow motion trainweck?
Even gladder that I dumped Blue Seal, now.
Most of their dog foods ae pork-based.
Would’ve trickled down...and resurfaced, eventually.
Please include me in your ping list—thanks!

A raw food diet is the safest and most nutritional for your pets!
Sorry but I have to say something about Science Diet. SD dry food caused diabetes in 2 of my cats (and hundreds more if you go to the feline diabetes forums). I have had several vets outright say SD dry is not a good nutritional food for cats.
Cats are obligate carnivores, they do not eat rice or wheat or veggies. When was the last time you saw a zoo feed the lions or tigers carrots or rice?

I’m not a veterinarian so can’t speak to specific health issues. My vet, however, has stated he has no problem with dry cat foods. Some customers I’ve met in my short time as rep have mentioned feeding dry SD dry for many years without problems; some have mentioned for 25 years or more. More than one swear by the product. I’d appreciate hearing specifically from you exactly what it is in this product they feel is detrimental.
We had a cat until recently, and fed it dry cat food exclusively. We never had a health issue with the animal. We now have a dog and feed him SD exclusively. And with his allergy problems, it’s the best dog food I’ve found (and I’ve tried most of the others).
Yes, cats are true carnivores (as opposed to dogs which are omnivores). But that doesn’t mean that feeding domestic cats a straight fat diet is correct for them. Their food should be high in protein, fatty-acids, taurine, and be balanced in such ingredients as calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.
please add me to your pet food recall list.
thanks
I will try your milk suggestion...she never has really liked milk...but she might go for it now...she loves (and I shouldn't admit this) American cheese. She doesn't get it often, but she really enjoys a slice every now and then (when particularly when she sees the kids are making sandwiches).
Many Thanks, PaMom
Bcsco, thanks for the info on SD. This is what we give our dogs, and with what seems to be a new recall every other day I become a little edgy
It's good to be edgy under the circumstances. But so far, SD seems to be on top of the situation. In my conversations with customers and potential customers, wheat glutin/melamine is the one single issue on everyone's minds. I'm glad to be able to show them correspondence from Hill's SD themselves that addresses those questions up front. It really helps.
For your peace of mind, here are the two Hill's products voluntarily recalled on March 27th & March 30th:
Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry: 4 & 10lb bags
Science Diet Savory Cuts (cans), all flavors
Note that Hill's made the following statement: "With the exception of the products listed above: All other Science Diet [and Prescription Diet] products are safe for you to sell and safe for your consumers to feed to their pets".
On April 18th, Hill's announced that a rice protein concentrate recall was now in effect. They made the following statement in this announcement: "While Hill's uses rice protein concentrate in 4 of its products, we do not use the supplier involved with the recall. Hill's has tested its ingredients and these tests show no melamine is present in the rice protein concentrate that it uses".
The four products involved, tested, and cleared are:
Prescription Diet z/d Feline dry
Prescription Diet k/d Canine canned
Science Diet Lamb Meal and Rice Recipe Puppy Large Breed
Prescription Diet h/d Canine dry
Since you have dogs, I'd say you should have little concern. But keep a watch on this situation. Things can change.
