Bcsco, thanks for the info on SD. This is what we give our dogs, and with what seems to be a new recall every other day I become a little edgy
It's good to be edgy under the circumstances. But so far, SD seems to be on top of the situation. In my conversations with customers and potential customers, wheat glutin/melamine is the one single issue on everyone's minds. I'm glad to be able to show them correspondence from Hill's SD themselves that addresses those questions up front. It really helps.
For your peace of mind, here are the two Hill's products voluntarily recalled on March 27th & March 30th:
Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry: 4 & 10lb bags
Science Diet Savory Cuts (cans), all flavors
Note that Hill's made the following statement: "With the exception of the products listed above: All other Science Diet [and Prescription Diet] products are safe for you to sell and safe for your consumers to feed to their pets".
On April 18th, Hill's announced that a rice protein concentrate recall was now in effect. They made the following statement in this announcement: "While Hill's uses rice protein concentrate in 4 of its products, we do not use the supplier involved with the recall. Hill's has tested its ingredients and these tests show no melamine is present in the rice protein concentrate that it uses".
The four products involved, tested, and cleared are:
Prescription Diet z/d Feline dry
Prescription Diet k/d Canine canned
Science Diet Lamb Meal and Rice Recipe Puppy Large Breed
Prescription Diet h/d Canine dry
Since you have dogs, I'd say you should have little concern. But keep a watch on this situation. Things can change.
