The one thing I like about Ubuntu is using sudo instead of signing on as root to do system changes, makes it easier to track who actually made the changes.

dfw,
That is possible on any linux, though none that I have ever worked with does so out of the box. Usually you have to shange sudoers and the ssh config file.

Dell has been shipping Linux on workstations for some time, it’s the home desktop computers they took a beating on and quit selling. You do understand the difference, I hope?

I’m a relative Linux newbie, pretty much worked with MS. But we just got new workstations with Ubuntu installed, I also have dual boot w/Windows and Ubuntu on my personal laptop.
The one thing that bothers me about Ubuntu, and I even remember another Freeper mentioning this, is that for some reason, my laptop heats up more significantly when running under Ubuntu. I don’t know why, or if it’s something in the BIOS is need to set. If I close my laptop with XP, and put the laptop away for awhile, it will be cool when I open it back it, but with Ubuntu, it will stay hot, even when it is hibernating.

The article talks about laptops, not just workstations. "What operating system do the heads of Fortune 500 companies run on their personal laptops? In the case of Michael S. Dell, president and CEO of Dell, it's Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn."

Yup a stupid name
Not that Bill Clintons post had was anything about Linux. It would be like saying “An Apple a day Keeps the Doctor away” is talking about Apple computers.

“Precision” is Dell’s professional workstation line, including laptops. You might have noticed the price for this one is just shy of $5,000.

...and what does this have to do with anything?
