open source ping, IB4GE!!!!!!!
The one thing I like about Ubuntu is using sudo instead of signing on as root to do system changes, makes it easier to track who actually made the changes.
Dell has been shipping Linux on workstations for some time, it’s the home desktop computers they took a beating on and quit selling. You do understand the difference, I hope?
At first I doubted the truth of this, but when I saw a link to Michael Dell’s blog and the fact that he has Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on a Dell notebook, I had to change my mind.
If Dell really wants to do the Linux community a favor, it won’t just sell machines with some flavor of Linux. It will sell those Linux machines with the Linux bios.
But, and I cringe when I write this, GE is right about one thing. There are some real zealots in the open source movement. Not everyone is as whacked out as Stellman, but some are.
I don’t get it. I put Ubuntu on two machines and both of them were basically unusable because of cursor/mouse problems.
If there’s a distro out there that has been fixed I MIGHT try it again but it doesn’t take very many bad experiences to turn somebody off forever.
It’s not like a mouse is new tech from last year or something.
