I saw the title and thought of a computer being blown up by a rocket-propelled grenade.
I would suggest purchasing a copy of Windows XP (Get XP Home, it is cheapest), wiping your disk and installing XP. When Everquest is updated to work with Vista, you can reinstall Vista from the materials given to you with your new computer.
This is, I believe your only choice if you wish to play Everquest now.
I hate to recommend this course of action to people. I use a Mac, and people often think I do this as a way of poking at Windows users, but nothing could be further from the truth. Windows is a better gaming platform. I just hate to present such a stark choice.
If you cannot install Windows, take it to COMPUSA or someplace like that and pay them to do it.
Come on folks...give her a break. She is serious. (and stop stuneing her with your beebers)
Anti-Microsoft Sarcasm TorpedoTM ARMED. FIRE!!
I've often been tempted to use an RPG (rocket-powered grenade) on my Windows box, too.
My next home computer will be a Mac.
Cheers!
Check out Lord of the Rings Online. I've been playing the beta for a few weeks and it's pretty good. Nice graphics, very nice skill development model (for example, as you use a particular combat skill you earn "points" towards an improved version of that skill, separate from the "experience points" you get for slaying the monster), and a rich questing system.
Also, if you're into crafting, they have have some nice twists: a slight chance to create an enhanced item and the addition of optional components to augment the item.
The economy has a few problem, IMHO, like horse rides and repairs costing an arm-and-a-leg for lower level characters.
WOW runs vista without issue. Personally havn't tried it, guildies have though.
That said, dump Vista for now and run XP.
Anything that will run on Vista will run on DX10.
DX10 is simply a name for the latest generation video card.
The question is whether the game will use the increased capabilities of the new technology. For the answer to that, go to the grocery store and pick up a copy of Maximum PC magazine. They specialize in games and the hardware needed to play them.
It's interesting that you would pay an extra $500 for the latest video card without investigating which games take advantage of it.

I wouldn't ditch my favorite game because of a new, and marginally useful operating system. Install XP Pro, and have a nice day.
I gave up on SOE after their SWG Fiasco. They have zero interest in customer service, they are only interested in customer money.
My advice after playing EQ from Beta then EQII, then SWG, go play WoW. Blizzard is far more responsive to customer concerns and wants and they actually act like they give a damn what their paying customers are saying.
Not sure if it works on Vista tho.
Isn't Sony Online's customer service great?
That being said, let me join in on the chorus. Pick up a copy of World of Warcraft and head over to Azeroth. If you feel the need to stay with Sony, try EQ2, which probably runs. Guild War, LotR Online, Vanguard and City of Heroes are all also good choices as well.
