IAMS IS INDEED part of the recall. Click on the FDA link and then click on the P&G Care link. IAMs is apparently a division of P&G. I've been feeding my kitty with the 3oz. pouches, I checked the pouches that I still have left, and they match the plant code, but they don't match the code dates. The code dates given are 6339 through 7073 with a plant code of 4197.

Hopefully, we'll be okay with that Purina brand. It's not the best cat food, according to what I've read, but if it doesn't have that Purina name on it - none of mine will touch it.
I did try them out on 3 different cans of Schnuck's house brand a few weeks ago. Maybe now I know why they wouldn't do much more than smell of it...

Thank you for your reply!

My little black cat will only eat fancy feast beef with gravy. Could be why her teeth are so bad, unfortunately!

My sister told me about the recall this morning...after I mixed about a 1/4th of a can of Iams in with the dogs dry food and put some in a bowl for my cat - he loves the gravy and meat of the dog food much better than cat food.
Thankfully the code on the can wasn't listed on the Iams site.

I buy canned foods at a discount grocery for $.30 when I find them, mostly different kinds of Purina and Alpo. Rarely find Iams or other brands.

I was sweating it until I could check their website this morning. My kitties eat Friskies canned food with gravy, but thank God they weren't on the list. Here is the
link to their company. I sure hope no one uses any of these brands. There's sure a lot of them.

...after I mixed about a 1/4th of a can of Iams in with the dogs dry food and put some in a bowl for my cat - he loves the gravy and meat of the dog food much better than cat food. Supposedly, cats need a much higher level of protein than dogs do, so from what I've read, I wouldn't recommend feeding your cat with dog food over the long term. Supposedly dogs can get by with less protein over the long term.
Might there be a gravy product especially for cats? I know that some cat foods have more gravy than others.

What do you feed your cats, honey?

Iams foods are on the list. Here is the website that lists both cat and dog foods. Please check here or call the 1-800# if you are unsure. Better safe than sorry.

OMG I looked at this list several times and only JUST NOw did I see Hills Science Diet. I already have a sick geriatric kitty. I have the savory cuts ocean fish, but the numbers on the bottom DO NOT MATCH. Am I safe? This has already been consumed and I had to dig the can out of the trash. Please reassure me. I called the 800 number and it is a recording.

Uh oh. A lot of old people are going to go hungry. This IS a Republican administration so all old people are eating dog food, right? It's just the wealthy ones who are eating the "imported" Canadian dog food.
Tis a great and honorable thing to remain loyal to an all-American product:

They have added a LOT of other names to the list. Familiar major brands. I was shocked to see hills science diet. I had looked several times prior and it wasn't there before. I am a nervous wreck.

Yes, that is going to frighten a lot of people. We can't even trust the better ones now!

Thanks for the ping. It was very thoughtful. Fortunately, my dog only eats small children. :o) See my homepage, you'll understand.
