Clocky – The Alarm Clock That Runs Away

March 9, 2007

For people who have trouble dealing with an alarm clock telling them it’s time to get up, here’s one potential solution – it’s an alarm clock that runs away and torments you until you get up. When Clocky was just a design concept it received a lot of attention, but now it’s a real product. When the alarm sounds, Clocky will start beeping. You can set him to run away immediately the alarm sounds, or you can set it to snooze once for your chosen number of snooze minutes and if you don't get up, Clocky will start beeping again and run away. His aim is to jump off your bedside table first, so he won’t be easy to catch once, he’s hit the floor. He then scurries away and beeps at you until you get up and catch the little critter.

Created by Boston-based designer Gauri Nanda, the Clocky is available in three colours – almond, aqua and mint – and sells for US$50.

Kinda cute. But I can only imagine how many of these will end up being thrown out of windows.

Here's video of it in action.

Here's Clocky confusing the heck out of some cats.

I might get it just for my cats.

An alarm clock that runs away?

I had one of these many years ago in the form of my 3rd son, whom I often referred to as "Crack of Dawn". Many years later, as a teen, that was the time he wanted to go to bed instead of getting out of bed.

I'm dying here imagining the chaos of disheveled and half-asleep me jumping out of bed to chase my fleeing alarm clock while laughing and tripping over my crazed and barking dogs! Ping

So would there be a conflict if that was in the same room as a Roomba?

Buy one for Eaker, although he probably would shoot it.

Heard that story years ago in Denton, TX. I always remembered that. Now that I have a son about to start school it's time to buy some marbles.

I'm guessing 12 gauge might be overkill. a 410 ought to do it.

This would cause a commotion amongst the Eaker dogs which would be fun to watch!

I can imagine Eaker trying to get a good shot without injuring a dog and TheMom, of course!, with the camera!

lol!

Speaking of R2D2...how's this for a preposterous invention?

I think it'd take me about a day before I stomped the little guy or threw him against a wall...

No..the best alarm clock is a TI or Gunnery Sarge Drop kicking an garbage can down the center of the Squad bay yelling at you to Drop your privates parts and grab your socks...
Nothing can beat that for a wake up call, other than having an SWAT team kick in your front door by mistake.

The firm that I work for is offering a deal where we can work four-tens and alternate days so that every other weekend is a four day weekend.

The only down side is that I have trouble getting in eight hours a day. This would often entail "gasp" getting to work on time and not leaving early.

Sigh..............

Maybe I'll get on of these durn things.

I watched the video and changed my mind.

It would be fun to let it loose at the office!
