Ancient Greek Theater Discovered
Discovery ^ | February 16, 2007 | Nicholas Paphitis

Sections of an ancient Greek theater were discovered on Thursday during construction work in an Athens suburb... Until now, only two such buildings were known in the ancient city where western theater originated more than 2,500 years ago. Fifteen rows of concentric stone seats have been located so far in the northwestern suburb of Menidi, according to Vivi Vassilopoulou, Greece's general director of antiquities... The structure has not yet been dated, and further details are expected to emerge following a full excavation. Menidi is thought to be built over the ancient village of Acharnae, the largest of a string of rural settlements outside ancient Athens. Ancient writers mention a theater at Acharnae, but no traces of it had been found until now... Another smaller theater has been discovered in southern Athens.

I'd whipped up the next Digest, figuring it would be all but ready, and not expecting to take the time to post anything else; then Blam posted that topic about the origin of capsicum, so it seemed appropriate to add one more. :')

To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list. Thanks.

"How Do You Solve a Problem Like Medea?"

I know one way you don't solve it. Don't get a creepy old guy whose face looks like it's about to slide off to sit in the middle of stage auditioning people and expect people to watch it....and then whatever you do don't spin it off for another musical in another country

It appears that even then their stage had a trap door!

I was the evil Munro in "Dirty Work at the Crossroads". I was run over by a locomotive! Never did have my way with the heroine!

I'm still waiting for them to dig up Pompeii's theater in Rome. I was there last year and believed I stayed right over the area where Caesar should have been aerated.
