Minneapolis StarTribune (aka The Red Star) ^ | 1/20/07 | Tom Ford - Staff Reporter

A 29-year-old man who was apparently horsing around with some friends crashed through a window and fell 16 stories at the downtown Minneapolis Hyatt Regency early Saturday morning.

His most severe injury? A broken leg.

The man must have "an angel on his shoulder or something," said Minneapolis police Lt. Dale Barsness. "He's a lucky guy."

The man, identified by a police report as Joshua S. Hanson, landed on a roof overhang near the hotel's main entrance along the Nicollet Mall, police said.

If he had been sober, the fall probably would have killed him. He was probably too drunk to tense up before impact.

His Guardian Angel/s saved his butt! It obviously wasn't his time to die.

After reading the story, I see that he was also helped by the glass and metal awning absorbing much of the impact.

Good point, rigidity enhances resistance and diminishes flexibility as one hits an unmoveable or somewhat giving object. This is one lucky fellar.

Slosh'd Josh lives to drink again. The ribbing he will have to endure may be such he is compelled to drink.

True, but had he been sober he probably wouldn't have fell out the window in the first place.

I think you're right. I've been at the aftermath of a few car accidents involving people who were drunk who should have been more severely injured, but weren't. Years ago, one guy went through the front window of a house in our neighborhood, thankfully the house was empty, and - not a scratch on him, though the front of his car was trashed.

Probably landed on his head.

They should check the sidewalk for damage.

It happens. There was a Russian skydiver who's parachute didn't open from a mile up and lived. She (I think) broke almost every bone in her body, and was in traction for over a year, but she survived.

While his physical injuries are minor, I bet he is gonna have one helluva stutter for the rest of his life.

"For some reason, Hanson ran out of the elevator and took off down a short hallway of rooms toward a floor-to-ceiling window, he said. He then apparently lost his balance and crashed through the glass, he said."

Yer honor. My client obviously tripped on a defect in the hallway carpet, then crashed through a glass window, equally defective. The hotel was negligent in looking after the safety of its guests by placing windows in such a position that guests may easily fall through them

$10 million should cover my client's pain and suffering.

From seventeen stories Joshes impact velocity was about 46.2 Meters per second or 81 mph. 8 more stories up and Josh would have hit terminal velocity ( flared) at 120 mph.
