I have been in Tucson in Sabino canyon area....I have seen Javelina (collard peccary). One method would be to shoot and eat these wild, pig like, mammals.....
OOOOOOOOO...Javelina.

It's a sad case but a good example of owning real "dawgs".
Nasty critters, those wide pigs, but my dawgs could have held them off while I beat a hasty retreat to a safer local. Followed quickly by them.

Never bring a Chihuahua to a Javelina fight.

How to fend off a javelina attack Shoot the thing! Good grief. I think God put some critters on earth to test humans to see if we're smart enough to kill the things. Crocodiles and sharks fall into those categories.

I have a friend who lives in that area. I'd never even heard of those animals until she told me about them. It's a big problem. Imagine looking out into your front yard in the morning and finding pigs rooting around. They had to fence the entire property.

A friend of mine in high school had a 800lb+ pet hog named Martha. He used to come in to school regularly with a new cast on his arm or leg from "playing" with Martha. Seems Martha didn't realize her own size, she thought she was a Lab or something...

I grew up in Tucson and as a kid I would go bow hunting with my dad for javelina. Each year a hunt would be put on to cut down their numbers, guess they don't do this any more.

Time to start carrying the 12 gauge on the daily walk. 00 & slugs is a wonderful thing.
Or trade in those little bug-eyed dogs for some Irish Wolfhounds.

I've seen lots of javelina around here (Sedona, AZ), but I've never heard of one attacking a human. After our La Barranca fire last summer, 3 miles from our place, I saw whole families of javelina going further afield to forage for food.

My first question, upon reading this, is "who is Snyder?" Of course that was before I clicked on the article link and read that you cut out the first sentence/paragraph that explains Snyder is a road.

"At 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Gordon and her three Chihuahuas were attacked by a pack of javelinas..." Well there's the problem right there. She was baiting them. Everyone knows that Chihuahuas = javelina bait.
(I can never see the word Chihuahua without thinking of Les Nesman on WKRP in Cincinnati and the way he pronounced it on the air: "Chi-hoo-a-hoo-a". Makes me laugh every time!)

Can javelina be trained?
I've got an idea.
