Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
For some reason, this pops into my head and it won't go away:
Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout -
She wouldn't take the garbage out
She'd wash the dishes and scrub the pans
And cook the yams and spice the hams
But though her parents would scream and shout
She wouldn't take the garbage out
So it piled up to the ceiling:
Coffee grounds, potato peelings
Brown bananas, rotten peas
Lumps of sour cottage cheese
Filled the can and covered the floor
And crapped the windows and blocked the door
With bacon rinds and chicken bones
And drippy ends of ice-cream cones
Pizza crusts and withered greens
Soggy beans and tangerines
Peach pips, prune pips, orange peel
Glumpy globs of cold oatmeal
Crusts of black burnt buttered toast
Grisly bits of beefy roast
The garbage rolled on down the hall
It raised the roof and broke the wall
With greasy napkins, cookie crumbs
Globs of gluey bubble gum
Cellophane from old balloni
Rubbery blubbery macaroni
Peanut butter caked and dried
Cuts of green and mouldy pie
Rotten melon skins and mustard
Egg shells mixed with lemon custard
Cold French fries, rancid meat
Yellow lumps of (ugh!) cream of wheat
At last the garbage reached so high
That finally it touched the sky
And none of her friends would come to play
And all the neighbours moved away
Finally Sarah Cynthia Stout said
O.k. - I'll take the garbage out
But then, of course it was too late
The garbage reached across the state
From New York to the Golden Gate
And there in the garbage she did hate
Poor Sarah met an awful fate
That I cannot right now relate
Because the hour is much too late
So, children, remember Sarah Stout -
And always take the garbage out
Heh, all of a sudden I have realized that a last name can uniquely identify you! My maiden name combination was so common, you'd have to know something about me to stalk me online. But now, as far as I can tell, I'm the only person at least that Google knows about with my first and last name.
Did you feel any wind at all last night? They say the airport gusted to 30 but I sure didn't feel that. Something woke me up at 11:30 and I stayed up till about 1 making sure it wasn't going to amount to anything, but I wouldn't say we got anything above 15 during that time. Enough to make the tarps flap, but the horses were OK with it and could stay in. Sure was pouring though, it's a lot louder here since ecurbh cleaned the roof. Sounds like your house :~)
I think there's one other person in the country with my first and last name. In Virginia, as I recall.
There are few enough of us that on several occasions we've all gotten calls when someone with our last name passed away without a next-of-kin. Couple hundred at most, I think...though my brothers are workin' on that...
That's a funny poem to know, let alone have popping into your head. :~)
The additional electronics are probably all the digital switching gear. The old analog stuff would've been just more mechanical and the low voltage phone signal was all it needed. Now they got 'puter chips to do it all.
Mostly just heard hard rain. Maybe a little wind, but nothing like the other night. Nothing even a tiny bit like that.
Well, it's garbage day. And I missed it last week. So I *really* needed to make sure it got put out this morning.
Heh. I did that with an airline reservation once. Couldn't tell a 1 from an I. Doh!
There's a set of people with the same last name as us who aren't related, somewhere in New York I think. And a winery in New Zealand. That's about it. My mother in law has a very similar name to me, and Talon's brother's wife has the same first initial. We found it vaguely amusing that to marry into the family apparently your name had to start with _.
I am still getting used to people mispronouncing it. My maiden name got mispelled a lot but never mispronounced.
Oh my last name gets brutalized. People want to pronounce it like school. You don't know how many times I've been called Mrs. Skull. LOL!!
We're the only ones in the Tulsa area as far as I know, at least that's listed in the phone book. By which I mean, there are none in the phone book, because we're unlisted.
I dated Steve for a couple of months before I realized his last name wasn't what I thought it was...I saw his mail.
"There is no cannibalism in the British Navy... And when I say none, I mean there is a certain amount." :~)
LOL!!
Oh NO! My favorite meteorologist has passed away!!
He just retired a couple weeks or so ago...he looked very thin.
I'm so upset! I really really liked him!

Shucks...
LOL! That's the truth! Seems like we're in our own little private chat room sometimes. ;o)
I've called off school. I'm going to assess and see if we need to do anything absolutely before we break for Christmas.
The boys are upset and so am I. We loved that Wild Weather show we went to a while back. We knew it was his final year of doing the shows, so we didn't want to miss it. Remember? They were doing YMCA and the boys were just so puzzled by it all? (It was the closest thing they'd ever seen to a pep rally.)
We have a music store in CA (I want one of their t-shirts someday), a real estate guy in PA...can't remember what else. Professors, I think. And music related, as I recall, interestingly enough.
I haven't googled it in awhile...always kinda interesting, even if I also come across my own name on stuff I didn't know was out in public.
Oh, and there's a town in South Dakota with my last name. Yay.
We want to get some wine from the winery with our name, sometime. Hafta see if they ship. There's a town in Germany that is basically the same name, just minus the 'er' at the end.
Ugh. Company potluck, too much food.
