THE HAUNTED PALACE

BY E. A. POE, ESQ.

In the greenest of our valleys
By good angels tenanted,
Once a fair and stately palace —
Snow-white palace — reared its head.
In the monarch thought's dominion —
It stood there!

Never Seraph spread his pinion
Over fabric half so fair.
Banners yellow, glorious, golden,
On its roof did float and flow —
This — all this — was in the olden
Time long ago —

And every gentle air that dallied,
In that sweet day,
Along the rampart plumed and pallid,
A winged odour went away.
All wanderers in that happy valley,

Through two luminous windows saw
Spirits moving musically
To a lute's well tuned law,
Round about a throne where sitting (Porphyrogene!)
In state his glory well befitting,

The sovereign of the realm was seen.
And all with pearl and ruby glowing
Was the fair palace door ;
Through which came flowing, flowing, flowing,
And sparkling evermore,

A troop of echoes, whose sweet duty
Was but to sing
In voices of surpassing beauty,
The wit and wisdom of their king.
But evil things in robes of sorrow,
Assailed the monarch's high estate!

Ah, let us mourn — for never morrow
Shall dawn upon him desolate!
And round about his home the glory,
That blushed and bloomed,
Is but a dim-remembered story
Of the old time entombed.

And travelers now within that valley,
Through the red-litten windows, see
Vast forms that move fantastically
To a discordant melody;

While, like a rapid ghastly river,
Through the pale door;
A hideous throng rush out forever,
And laugh — but smile no more.<

those food ideas (and pix of meat roll ups) sound interesting. I wonder if you could use the little biscuits in package of about 5-10 & roll them out. I used to do that for the mini pizzas. maybe could put the meat mixtures in that. I could make up a batch of the meat & divide it up for mom now & then fore these & make/bake them fresh.

I always find campfire things fun to discuss.. some families/friends have long standing traditions with yearly hayrides, hay mazes, haunted houses, campfires, singing, traditional foods. I have never been a part of the regular ones but now & then have been invited to some things. There was one scheduled last night but the virtual monsoon in our area washed it & most other activities away

Karl Jung (psychologist contemporary with & friend of FREUD) called this the collective universal consciousness. Rather a flow of energy that we could tap into at will or sometimes NOT at will.

I believe the 6th sense is in all people. The more scientific/reason oriented one is, the more difficult it is to tie into it. From what I have noted it can be developed & more or less obstacles for it to function well removed.

some seem to have a more natural flow of these events, situations...and have more contact with things. I get them on occasion but NOT regular & always a bit unnerving

The term foreknowledge ...like signs of happening are very prevalent. Many dismiss some of these things as coincidence.. but I don't think so myself. People often don't share these situations as they don't want to appear weird.

I think Christians MUST be careful(Bible warns us about testing the spirits).. It is easy to tap into sources which are forbidden & harmful. Satan is the person of many disguises.

When we leave this world via death we leave TIME also & so the events that are time sequential to us are no longer convinced to that & so tapping into the different dimension, if you will can & does occur.

I like to use the image of life as a train on a track. When we are alive we are one of the people in the train & see/experience what is in our car & immediate surroundings. some people(6th sense) can look out the windows & see a little more.

When we die we are above the train & see the whole thing.. what is way ahead & way behind as well as thru the walls of the train to see all..

analogy might seem strange but it is the best I could come up with to describe my interpretation

Thanks for the links CST,,,need to run out to chiropractor shortly but will check them out when I return.

A couple years ago I went on a downtown Cleveland haunted bicycle tour. We started at 6 PM & went to 19 locations in 4 hours &* about 40 miles total biking.. fun evening. downtown streets are fairly well lit & traffic minimal. Too dark for the camera I had along however. I alway thought I would do it again during day, but haven't yet.

I have taken many pix of one particular building however.Migfht post it later if I can locate it

We have a lot of these spooky areas & I guess a lot of areas do. I understand from Curly Bill that his locale in Maryland does also.

Curly Bill does the Ghost ping list for anyone interested. I made reference to his two threads in the opening with a hot link

If you are not into pastry making do they not sell frozen pastry in the States? We have been selling it for 20 or 30 years here.

In Britain they even have vegetarian sausage rolls because they are so popular the filling is similar to that of vegetarian meat loaf some sort of quorm mixture flavoured I suspect with some sort of vegetarian stuffing mix, I think I sent you a pack of the stuffing mix which I am sure was suitable for vegetarians using veg suet (white veg fat - shortening) instead of beef suet.

We can also buy frozen sausage rolls uncooked so you can cook them and eat hot which is the best in my opinion.

I think your mother would probably like something similar as they tend to melt in the mouth and then you get herby taste of the sausage, brats could be used but they maybe a bit hard but the small ones probably would be OK.

Yes of course Jung I was not very bright yesterday. Dad has studied Jung and Freud so I am aware of the basics of both of their theories and I bought dad for Christmas a couple of years ago the letters exchanged between Freud and Jung I must get around to reading those myself.

Best of luck in finding something better and don't worry about them freaking out as has been said to me many times no one is irreplaceable. I have seen so many times people who companies worry about loosing someone but once they have gone they become the reason for everything that went wrong while they were there. On the whole companies use us for what they want it is the individuals within the company who make it all worthwhile not the collective company.

I'll try to reply again.

The glass shop makes large pieces of glass. Most of them are proprietary designs, so my boss doesn't talk about them in detail. I'm not exactly sure what all of them are. Some may be similar in size to the panels on the greenhouse that you showed. I think most are more specialized.

I've missed the first part of the moving effort because I was still sleeping after last night. I may join them later in New Orleans or just wait here to help unload when they get back.

Bill

Boo back to you Meg..love the kitty /witch graphic & the table matches as usual perfectly!

Time at chiropractor was fun. Took a lot of pix & will post them this afternoon. A couple times a year they have a patient appreciation day with refreshments & free treatment. It is a VERY busy day for the entire staff.

My back feels much better, still the lower /coccyx pain but that is forever type with degeneration, spurs etc.

Hi there & welcome to our thread!

I just read your profile page.. OH MAN.. what a tragedy to loose your boyfriend..and he introduced you to FR.. was he a FReeper? or just lurker? Know we have lost some good people recently but many that die or become incapacitated, we never know about. Flyer is the one that is the most recent that I recall.

Are you familiar with the FR Memorial wall? If you or anyone else has never been there, it is worth a visist. At each person's memorial are links to their homepages & their illness or death threads.
