German driver's car directs him into toilet 23 October 2006
BERLIN: A German motorist followed the command "Turn right now" from his navigation system and crashed into a small toilet hut by the side of the road - about 30 metres before the crossing he was meant to take.
The overly obedient 53-year-old from Freiburg drove his sport utility vehicle off the road onto into a building site, up a stairway and into the small toilet shack, police in the eastern town of Rudolstadt said on Sunday.
It caused 2000 euros ($NZ3843) worth of damage to the stairway, 100 euros damage to his car, and he was also fined 35 euros.
Earlier this month an 80-year-old motorist also chose to follow his navigation system and ignored a "closed for construction" sign on a Hamburg motorway. He then crashed into a pile of sand but neither he nor his passenger were injured.
"I was just following orders."
And up the stairs, no less.
Sometimes it's just too easy.
"I see dumb people. They're walking around, just like us, and they don't even know they're dumb..."
My grandson and I were out geocaching, he was using the GPS and I was driving. In the middle of a bridge, he told me to turn left. I told him I couldn't, and he said, "we're never gonna find anything if you won't listen to me"!
Satnav--you'll never find anything but we'll find you.
Or how about OnStar blended with Satnav:
Satnav sends you to the toilet [in this case] while OnStar phones someone telling them it's all clear to rob your house.
Hehehe - Technology Bites...
Hope that was a good lesson for your grandson of the pitfalls of solely relying on technology when a simple examination of his surroundings would tell him the obvious;)
It's got its uses - one of them is making me laugh whenever I hear the *insert adjective here* tales of the OnStar ads... "Help, I have a broken finger nail...."
That's why you should use GPS.
Satnav has problems. It makes you wreck
