We are on the verge of getting a dog. I was thinking we would get a dog house and make it an outdoor dog. Thank you for setting me straight. You have saved me a lot of time, not to mention the expense of a dog house I would no doubt have been selling in a couple of months.

16. Okay, the dog can do whatever he wants. I just hope he continues to allow me to live in the house so that I may serve him better. I wonder if that old dog house is up for sale? Just in case. Winter's coming on, and I may need shelter.

Wife Rule re: Cats.
Stray Cats can live on the porch in the "Cat House". Sign must read: "Cat House. For Cats Only!"
Huskie Dogs, (have two), can sleep on couch as long as dog cover in place.

Standing rule in my house. The cats are not allowed to play in the dryer. Period.

We adopted our Ridgeback when she was seven months old. Decided we weren't going to let her in our room.
On the second night she throws up, we figure she was sick so we let her in bed with us. Next night - puked in the doorway of our room at bed time, we suspiciously let her in bed. Fourth night, back in the doorway, pukes again and looks at us for an invite - got scolded and sent to her own bed.
That was years ago - now she's in bed with us or our sons 2 out of 3 nights.

"(It starts to rain. Stray cat is now looking in the window with a pitiful expression.)"True story: Many years ago, I begged my husband (who was a 'confirmed cat-hater') to let me get a cat. He finally agreed, but the cat was absolutely, positively stay outside in our screen porch. I was working night-shift at the time, and I came home one morning and there was no cat in the porch.
I ran inside, to tell my husband that the cat had escaped, and there I found Puff, lying on our bed. His excuse? "Well, it was raining." I pointed out that the porch had a roof. His answer was that the roof might have leaked. Long story short - he was taken in by the poor pitiful kitty act - and has been the loyal subject of many a cat over the years since then.

Don't tell our Chihuahua (Medina) any of those rules. She thinks she's human and she doubles as a security alarm.

Can we take him home?
We already have a dog.
But look at him, and our dog needs a friend.
Can we keep the kitty?
We already have a cat.
But look at her.

This is good. My dog(s) and cat have always been my "pet kids". I worry about them during severe weather when I can't be at home. They get birthday and Christmas presents. Every year (since my divorce) they get a new ornament for the Christmas tree.

Our cat, fat ol' Elmo, lives outside year round. He gets two small handful of dry cat food a day. He's neutered, so he doesn't wander very far or create more stray cats.
We like Elmo, he likes us, and we do just fine.
