More about this here: http://www.news14charlotte.com/content/local_news/?AC=&ArID=126719&SecID=2 Apparently the kids were playing close to the dog's pen and triggered the bull baiting genetics.

The passerby must have been a legal resident white male not to get his name mentioned. It takes just a wee bit of bravery to jump into a pack of pit bulls in attack mode.

OK, I'm waiting for the Freeper who usually kicks in with his defense of pit bulls. They're just kindly misundestood dogs.

Awwww, but these precious animals are only mean if their owners are mean.

As a person who has worked in insurance and seen many dog bite claims, I would say 75% are from pit bulls. And given the damage they can do, I would say make them extinct.

Now let's see how many parents and grandparents will post about how sweet they are around their babies. Which is great, most are good with members of their own pack. It's the rest of us that have to pay for your stupidity.

True and timely story:
Day before yesterday I was taking my dog on our daily walk in the neighborhood. A neighborhood moron two blocks from my house was untying the dog that he usually keeps tied up in the front yard. As we walked past his yard on the other side of the street, his dog (which I now noticed was a pit bull) made a beeline toward me and my dog. With his half-wit owner shouting, "He won't hurt you!" the beast buried his mouth in my dog's neck. I was hysterical, trying to separate the animals, fearful the pit would turn on me. Luckily, a lady, who had been a vet's assistant for nine years, was driving by and saw what happened, jumped out of her car, and came to help. Meanwhile, the Master of Satan's Spawn sauntered over, grabbed his dog, and dragged him back across the road. No apology. My dog had run under some bushes. Fortunately, he was ok, but scared to death. Now I have to change my walking route because my dog is too afraid to walk past that house. As am I. Believe me, it took every fiber of my being not to go home, get Old Tick Licker, and blow that animal to Canine Hell. I'm still so mad at this fool who had this animal. Oh, yeah, this idiot also has two kids.

But, but, Pit bulls are sweet. It depends how they are raised.

Same song, second verse.

Of course there are a couple other breeds I put in the same category.

A man passing by jumped into the pack of dogs and chased them away from the boy.

Hero alert. This fellow deserves a medal and got a bare mention in the story. What would we be reading if he hadn't?

A dog like that would never survive an attack against me or anybody close to me. I own and carry a really large bayonet.

Big surprise. I'm waiting to hear about someone mauled by a French Poodle.

Wouldn't be a problem if people could carry arms, even though news stories indicate it takes multiple bullet wounds to kill a pit bull. Just the same -- see 'em loose in public, kill 'em for the same reason you kill black widows and rattlesnakes: it's the responsible thing to do.

That way, the only pitbulls left would belong to people who had control of them. No need to ban the dogs or make them extinct.
