Boy mauled by pit bulls

Police say the boy who was attacked by pit bull dogs Thursday night in northeast Charlotte was seriously hurt but did not suffer life-threatening wounds.
The boy, who police say was 7 years olds, was playing with his brother about 7 p.m. in a neighbor's yard on Eastway Drive. The two boys told police that the dogs escaped from a fenced-in yard, climbing through a hole in the fence.
Witnesses say two of the dogs attacked the boys. A man passing by jumped into the pack of dogs and chased them away from the boy.
Police responded and were forced to shoot and kill one of the pit bulls which had become extremely aggressive.
The other three dogs were captured by the police Animal Control Unit.
Police Sgt. Carl Bannerman told WCNC-TV, the Observer's news partner, that the injured boy "lost a lot of blood."
According to WCNC, Bannerman also said it appeared as if the dog's owner had made sure the animals had current rabies vaccinations and a permit to own four or more pit bulls, which is required by city law.
The dog's owner told police he does not want the dogs back, so they likely will be euthanized.
Happy ending - 4 dead pit bulls.
Make them extinct.
Make them extinct.
Send them to Iraq.
Well of course it was the child's fault, couldn't be the owner of the dogs fault for keeping them in a yard that was not secure against escape. /sarc
Yes of course...And you could also consider poor breed choice as the casual factor.
It would be interesting to know if the owner had insurance to cover the vicitm's medical bills.
The passerby must have been a legal resident white male not to get his name mentioned. It takes just a wee bit of bravery to jump into a pack of pit bulls in attack mode.
For some reason people in cities seem to be drawn to the pit bull breed. Having four makes me think they were planning to use them for fighting. Here in the country they are shot if they are seen out in anyone's fields.
OK, I'm waiting for the Freeper who usually kicks in with his defense of pit bulls. They're just kindly misundestood dogs.
They could have been Pit Bull profilerating back yard breeders too.
Here's another recent incident. Apparently the woman triggered the Pit Bull's Bull Baiting genetics by going over and looking at a pet they had just shredded.

TEXAS CITY A woman attacked by two pit bulls was back home Wednesday, two days after the dogs mauled her at her home.
However, the dogs will not be coming home. Animal-control officers euthanized the dogs after their owner surrendered custody of the animals.
Rhonda Trujillo-Lambert, 48, was in her home in the 2300 block of 37th Avenue North on Monday afternoon when she heard dogs barking. When she opened her garage door, she saw two pit bulls standing over the remains of a cat in a grassy patch about 50 yards away.
The dogs trotted away, but Trujillo-Lamberts husband said they turned around as she checked on the cat.
When she looked up, they were walking away, but then they turned around and charged her, Kevin Lambert said. She hadnt done anything to provoke them, didnt shout at them or threaten them in any way.
Trujillo-Lambert backed up toward her house, but the dogs reached her and began to maul her.

Awwww, but these precious animals are only mean if their owners are mean.
As a person who has worked in insurance and seen many dog bite claims, I would say 75% are from pit bulls. And given the damage they can do, I would say make them extinct.
Now let's see how many parents and grandparents will post about how sweet they are around their babies. Which is great, most are good with members of their own pack. It's the rest of us that have to pay for your stupidity.
True and timely story:
Day before yesterday I was taking my dog on our daily walk in the neighborhood. A neighborhood moron two blocks from my house was untying the dog that he usually keeps tied up in the front yard. As we walked past his yard on the other side of the street, his dog (which I now noticed was a pit bull) made a beeline toward me and my dog. With his half-wit owner shouting, "He won't hurt you!" the beast buried his mouth in my dog's neck. I was hysterical, trying to separate the animals, fearful the pit would turn on me. Luckily, a lady, who had been a vet's assistant for nine years, was driving by and saw what happened, jumped out of her car, and came to help. Meanwhile, the Master of Satan's Spawn sauntered over, grabbed his dog, and dragged him back across the road. No apology. My dog had run under some bushes. Fortunately, he was ok, but scared to death. Now I have to change my walking route because my dog is too afraid to walk past that house. As am I. Believe me, it took every fiber of my being not to go home, get Old Tick Licker, and blow that animal to Canine Hell. I'm still so mad at this fool who had this animal. Oh, yeah, this idiot also has two kids.
Same song, second verse.
Of course there are a couple other breeds I put in the same category.
Question for pit-bull defenders.
WHY- when there are countless other breeds of dogs, big and small- choose a breed with such a bad rep, and one that necessitates constant defense and expense?
Is it like people who adopt problem children, you think you can reform them, change them? Or is it the bad/fearsome/intimidating rep that appeals?
I've worked dog bite claims too. Always interesting to find out the dog's name. I had three in a row named 'Rambo'.
