This is funny. I have been seeing quite a few threads on how gas prices are dropping across the board. However in CO (Denver and suburbs), the avg. price of regular is still $2.82. Wonder why the price isn't falling here like it is in many other places.

I don't think any crude is coming out of the reserve at this time. The unusually calm hurricane season, end of the summer driving season, newly found oil field in the Gulf of Mexico off of the Louisiana coast and PRICE SPECULATION is what is driving the prices down.

The price of gas is seasonal. It goes down after Labor Day. It'll go back up next summer.

The best way to reduce gas prices is to let the markets adjust on their own. Beating up the oil industry might have some very short term effect, but in the long term, it just makes the price go higher because companies aren't interested in investing in additional capacity unless they can make more money.

Here in NJ we're looking at $2.34 a gal. Slowly but surely it's comming down!

Where in NJ? I'm in Jersey and the cheapest i've seen is $2.49 at a Delta.

Someone please tell me what is so different now than 6 months ago to have caused this price drop other than an election being two months away?

Lots of stuff ...

"Oh wait," you say, "that has nothing to do with gas prices!" Uh, yeah. And where's YOUR evidence that the decline is due to the elections?

Or develop two inch grass, and the weed-eaters go back to Mehico. Wait! I've solved the illegals crisis!

I'm surprised it isn't lower than that in NJ. You have some of the lower taxes, unless there are additional city gas taxes in different cities that aren't figured in with the federal and state taxes at

Wow, $1.99 I got out of my energy stocks six months ago, a little early but you had to guess this was going to happen. Unless you were an idiot Dem who doesn't believe in market economics.

That is exactly the reason I believe there is price gouging going on. Yeah, NYs taxes rot but that doesn't explain all the difference.

I wish we could make it its own state or push it out to sea and pull the plug. Then we'd be a red state.

Looks like we've got an ol' fashion gas war on our hands. LOL Just like the 50's when stations were FULL SERVICE, pump your gas, check your oil, water in your radiator, air in the tires and clean your windshield. Give you a smile, a "thank you" with Green Stamps and all for 29.9!

You must of have been buying the high priced stuff. I remember it being less than .25 cents a gallon in the 50s and up into the early 60s gas was still about .25 to .29 for regular.

"Wasn't that one of the many phoney reasons the oil companies were giving us for their price gouging?"

Do you always go with the easy explanation when you don't understand the facts behind a phenomena?

Good morning.

Yes, Metmom. The difference between the prices in IA and CO is close to a Dollar!! I can't believe that it is merely state taxes that are contributing to the difference.

I agree with you. There is definitely price gouging going on (though I am not sure if it is at the distributor or at the retail levels).
