Pray - why don't you educate us simple folk? How do you explain a difference of close to a dollar (in prices of regular) between some states? Yes, I undertand that taxes and the market play a role in determining local prices. However, I am hard pressed to believe that both taxes and market demand are lower in NJ as compared to CO.

"Someone please tell me what is so different now than 6 months ago to have caused this price drop other than an election being two months away?"
Oil has been driven up by speculators ever since hurricane Katrina last year.
Now that we're past peak hurricane season 2006 (last week was it) with no storms predicted to hit the offshore Gulf of Mexico oil platforms, the oil speculators (who bet on bad weather) are getting killed. They are having to dump their long positions on oil and gasoline.
As oil goes down in price, so too further goes down gasoline.

Just read your home page, varyouga. What a lucky human being you are! Emerged from the darkness not once but three times. Out of communism; out of New York; and out of liberalism. Welcome to America, to central PA (neighbor!), and to FR, thrice-blessed varyouga. :)

Um...where do we GET the Hydrogen? You either have to get it from natural gas, which we can't really afford to tear apart, we need the gas for other uses...or, use electrolysis to break up water...which takes electricity...which comes from where?
I'm not against Hydrogen at all. In fact I've been a proponent of it in the past. I just want to know that we can actually use it and produce it efficiently.
Well, BMW is releasing their version next year and Honda is working with Plug Power, Inc. At this time, it works with natural gas. Hydrogen storage and production capacity are both improved by about 50 percent with the use of a new, high-performance, natural gas reformer per their web.
This is the future. Not the silly corn. That is a distraction and frankly, it takes a gallon of oil to make a just over a gallon of ethanol. Not solving our oil problem as we fund the ones that want to kill us.

When you find a liability attorney willing to sign off on hydrogen use for the general public, let me know...
Hydrogen in America is just a pipe dream. It may be an option for other country's, but not here...
The first time some drunk hooks his rusty nozzle up at the filling station, and blows away a city block, it's over...
Unlimited Civil liability will assure that hydrogen is NEVER used widely in America...

That is exactly the reason I believe there is price gouging going on. Yeah, NYs taxes rot but that doesn't explain all the difference. Yep, same here in CA. People always point to the high taxes on Gas here, which is true, we have high taxes on our gas due to the stupidity of the voters. However, we don't have a $1.00 tax on Gas. It is still about 3.09 to 3.19 here in the foothills of CA. In Sacramento it is under 3.00 but still a lot higher than can be accounted for by taxes compared to other states.

That is a distraction and frankly, it takes a gallon of oil to make a just over a gallon of ethanol And how many cubic feet of Natural gas does it take to make the Hydrogen from your link?
Until you can magically disassociate Hydrogen from Oxygen, anything powered by Hydrogen is going to be a net energy loser. Energy loser = Market Loser = Not the future.

In NJ they don't have self-serve either, which is usually cheaper. You HAVE to have an attendant fill up your car and the ones we used when down by NYC had three attendants who were, no doubt, getting paid. Apparently they had too much trouble with people who would fill up and drive off without paying. The cost of living is higher down that way, too.
There are a lot of factors that should theoretically make NJ very high, and it's lower than NY.
