How do you . . . MP3 question.

How do you rip/encode from a cd so that it is just one file instead of individual songs, for instance a live album where you don't want a break between songs. I want to rip that medley off the back of "Abbey Road" as one song. I did this in the past with "Jesus Christ -Superstar" but I've forgotten how to do it.

If you get a reliable concise answer, I'm gonna copy/save it.

I find my best freeware at snapfiles.com. I'll look there in a little bit and see if I can find something that will work.

I'll try that later. I've tried a freeware program called MP3AlbumMaker but it leaves an annoying hiccup between the songs. I also tried setting Audiograbber to analog but it still recorded the tracks individually. I must have been using Cdex.

I think I've figured it out. Using Cdex 1.51 I've use the "extract a section of the CD to wave or compressed audio file" button. Yep that did it.

Use Exact Audio Copy (EAC - a free download) in combination with LAME (another free download which does the MP3 compression). You need to use EAC's "Copy Range - compressed" feature, which allows you to specify which consecutive tracks (or partial tracks) you want to copy. The copy has no gaps between tracks.

iTunes does this. Just use the "join CD tracks" command. Here are the instructions from help:
1. Insert the CD with the songs you want to join.

2. Select the CD from the iTunes Source list. Note: Make sure the list is sorted by track number.

3. Select the adjacent tracks you want to join.

4. Choose Join CD Tracks from the Advanced menu.

5. Click Import.

Thanks for the replies, but the CDex thing worked. When I typed the bit about JC Superstar it jogged my memory, I only used CDex in those days because it was the best then available (I usually use Audiograbber and sometime Fairstars now).

Audiograbber

Cdex 1.51. This is the last "official" version, I think, but others are continuing to develope it.

FairStars CD Ripper

DB Poweramp (last freeware version). This is a little gem, grab this.
