Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
|
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I'll say! How far back???
What do you think it's about? You getting bad vibes?
...My folks are coming the last weekend of this month...I'm seriously considering asking my doctor for a specific # of valium to get through the visit. You think I'm kiddin? I also considered visiting the g'nads...but we have a parade that weekend and we're obligated to participate...the jedis are throwing candy from a wagon that's going along with all the VWs.

Hey... was just outside havin' a smoke break and I hear this big, loud throaty noise overhead... look up and there's a vintage DC-3 flying by, at maybe just a couple thousand feet.
Really cool. Looked really shiny, like it was pretty well restored. You just gotta love those big radial motors.
I can't find anything about it. Not sure what it was doing.

Wheeee home. I'm so glad it's Friday. All afternoon it was debugging really stupid bits of code with the person who knows how the accounting practices work and so could say "Well, in this case that has to be an N".

The most effective method is also the cheapest: Save the files you want to keep, reformat your hard drive, and re-install Windows.
It's the only way to be sure...!

oooh - very dangerous question, Sam!
Rosie... come on over as soon as you get around to it... We'll watch the mooooovie :~)
To: Sam Cree
In the old days, you could type the command Format C: at the command prompt... nowadays, when you start Window's installation routine it asks you if you want to format your hard drive or leave it as is.

I think I'm getting rid of this ancient computer, but Bear's suggestion of reformatting gave me the idea that it might be made to run at least a little faster than it does.
Anyhow, if it asks whether or not to format during reinstallation of Windows, that's perfect since we are already planning to reinstall Windows (98).

Rose talked me through that once. I'm not even sure I know which disks are the correct ones between the PC and the laptop. I'm sure I could figger it out.
But still...ain't there a better way?

Windows' registry has a habit of getting
crapped messed up, especially from installing and uninstalling programs, not to mention spyware, adware, etc., etc. There are programs that promise to clean all that up, but none of them get everything and most of them contain the possibility of messing things up so bad you have to re-install anyway. So, might as well skip the "maybe" and just format and install.
It really is the only way to be sure you get everything. Sounds drastic I know, but that's Windows.

So, I should do a ~complete~ reinstall? When Rose helped me, we didn't lose everything. But now that wife has a laptop for work, we could probably do that without too much trouble.
