Back to School
Well, it's that time of year. We're finally throwing away Fourth of July leftovers in our refrigerators; the stores are starting to put out Christmas decorations; and school is starting. (Okay, the stores don't have Christmas decorations up yet, but complaining about how early holiday decorating starts is everyone's pet peeve.) For lack of a better seasonal topic, this week's singles' thread topic will be back-to-school. We want to talk about your school experiences in general and back-to-school experiences in particular.
We'd like people to share any memories that they have of going back to school. Please feel free to post anything that comes to mind when you think of this topic.
Here are some questions to kick us off.
Does back-to-school this year have any special meaning to you? Are you taking any kind of classes in the fall semester or quarter? If so, what are you taking and why are you taking it? How do you think you'll do? How close are you finishing whatever schooling you're doing? Do you have children in school?
When you think of going back to school, do you think of experiences you had as a child, as a teenager, or as a college student? Were you one of those people who looked forward to new friends and new challenges or were you one of those people who hated to lose the carefree days of summer?
What did you wear to school? Were you a jeans and T-shirt kind of person or did you wear the trendiest fashions? When you started back to school in the fall, were cool, crisp days just ahead or was the weather going to continue to be hot for a few more months?
Whom did you hang out with? The jocks? The artsy crowd? The nerds?
Did you go to football games in the fall? basketball games in the winter? Did you go to your prom or formal dance? If you didn't go to these kinds of events, what did you do instead?
What was the most popular song in the year that you graduated?
What was your favorite subject and why? Who were your favorite teachers and why?
If you are heading back to school and have any subjects that scare you, please let us know. Within Free Republic in general and within this group, there are some very intelligent, very educated people. If there's some subject that could be a problem for you, maybe we can help.

I just want to post a quick message to all that I lost Pansy today. B-( She passed away less than two hours ago at the vets. I'd write more but I'm still collecting my thoughts plus I have to get ready and go to work, it is first quarter close and I'm needed there.

Oh, I am so very sorry. I know your heart & soul are heavy with pain. She was old & ill.. but we still dont' want to let them go.. I have been there. It hurts so much.
Prayers offered for your comfort
You have been a good daddy. You loved her for all those years, played with her, cared for her & took care of her medical needs. She knew she was loved & she loved you.

sorry I haven't checked in with a morning devotional. As I was ready to leave for store at 8, I called dogs.. NO JOSY..
she must have pushed the door open & ran after" something".. she has done that before. She is still not back & it is about 5 hours. I did not go to church but kept going to back & calling her & rode my bike up & down street several times.
Needless to say I am worried. Our property abuts the national park & between illegal hunters, coyotes & wolves, and the possibility of a fall/breaking leg in the driving rain we have had.. well, all those things are a factors for concern.
Please say a prayer for us..? thanks FRiends. If she isn't back by 3, Toby & I will go into the forest & begin searching. I will count on Toby to help find her.

So sorry about Pansy. I believe you lost another cat recently, so this must be particularly difficult. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers today.

Prayers up, Dolly. Hopefully, she'll soon wander back on her own, or you and Toby will be able to locate her. I know how worried you must be.

Dolly,
I'm sorry to hear about your little one missing. I hope she returns home soon after just getting into a little mischief. This is one of those times we all wish we could just pop through space to another place to help with the search. (I'd pop through space alone to handle RWI's blacksnake in the garage.) Best hopes to you and yours.

Is He Listening?
READ: Matthew 26:39-42; 27:45-46
My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Matthew 27:46
Sometimes it feels as if God isnt listening to me. Those words, from a woman who tried to stay strong in her walk with God while coping with an alcoholic husband, echo the heartcry of many believers. For 18 years, she asked God to change her husband. Yet it never happened.
What are we to think when we repeatedly ask God for something goodsomething that could easily glorify Himbut the answer doesnt come? Is He listening or not?
Lets look at the life of the Savior. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He agonized for hours in prayer, pouring out His heart and pleading, Let this cup pass from Me (Matthew 26:39). But the Fathers answer was clearly No. To provide salvation, God had to send Jesus to die on the cross. Even though Jesus felt as if His Father had forsaken Him, He prayed intensely and passionately because He trusted that God was listening.
When we pray, we may not see how God is working or understand how He will bring good through it all. So we have to trust Him. We relinquish our rights and let God do what is best.
We must leave the unknowable to the all-knowing One. He is listening and working things out His way. Dave Branon
Not ours to know the reason why
Unanswered is our prayer,
But ours to wait for Gods own time
To lift the cross we bear. Anon.

No.. the longest she has ever been gone when she darts out like that is about 10 min.. I spent a few hours in national park behind home calling looking. Toby did not pick up a scent etc. The drop to the valley floor is a few hundred feet.. we went down & up the stream to the canal..
I did call the police about 2:30 & they took the information etc..
Will keep you posted. I need to just give her to God.. trust him with her.. whatever

Thanks. One thing is that when you think you are making progress, you hit a brick wall and things go down from there. I understand she was 19 and all but still, no matter what, losing a pet is a traumatic experience. Pansy was a like a mother to the rest of the cats, especially Corky who is my oldest at 17 now. Even last week, she still washed Corky from time to time. Corky didn't come out from under my bed for a while but she is back mingling with the other 5 cats.

Thanks. I'm sure Pansy is hanging with my maternal grandmother now. My grandmother always loved Pansy and she called her, "the cat with the tan stripe on her forehead." As to seeing Pansy again, there is a poem called "The Rainbow Bridge" where basically, it is where all the pets go and become whole again and play when they get to heaven but they stay there to wait for you. Very touching. BTw, I was hoping for Pansy to make it to 20 and beyond but we might have such a chance with the others.
