Back to School
Well, it's that time of year. We're finally throwing away Fourth of July leftovers in our refrigerators; the stores are starting to put out Christmas decorations; and school is starting. (Okay, the stores don't have Christmas decorations up yet, but complaining about how early holiday decorating starts is everyone's pet peeve.) For lack of a better seasonal topic, this week's singles' thread topic will be back-to-school. We want to talk about your school experiences in general and back-to-school experiences in particular.
We'd like people to share any memories that they have of going back to school. Please feel free to post anything that comes to mind when you think of this topic.
Here are some questions to kick us off.
Does back-to-school this year have any special meaning to you? Are you taking any kind of classes in the fall semester or quarter? If so, what are you taking and why are you taking it? How do you think you'll do? How close are you finishing whatever schooling you're doing? Do you have children in school?
When you think of going back to school, do you think of experiences you had as a child, as a teenager, or as a college student? Were you one of those people who looked forward to new friends and new challenges or were you one of those people who hated to lose the carefree days of summer?
What did you wear to school? Were you a jeans and T-shirt kind of person or did you wear the trendiest fashions? When you started back to school in the fall, were cool, crisp days just ahead or was the weather going to continue to be hot for a few more months?
Whom did you hang out with? The jocks? The artsy crowd? The nerds?
Did you go to football games in the fall? basketball games in the winter? Did you go to your prom or formal dance? If you didn't go to these kinds of events, what did you do instead?
What was the most popular song in the year that you graduated?
What was your favorite subject and why? Who were your favorite teachers and why?
If you are heading back to school and have any subjects that scare you, please let us know. Within Free Republic in general and within this group, there are some very intelligent, very educated people. If there's some subject that could be a problem for you, maybe we can help.

I got to work the NASCAR event here last June (Infinion). It was a blast. Got to drive the Fox/Nasacar golf-carts around and stuff.

Hey kiddies!
Did I miss all the action already?
To: Maximus_Ridiculousness
The action didn't last long. LOL

Only for a few more days, although it's still 80 degrees both inside and outside. It's almost 1 am and I just shut the air off an hour ago.

Blech. I HATE the heat now. We have no central air. I know exactly how you feel.
To: Maximus_Ridiculousness
At least it's not cold, which I hate. I'll take 80 over 45 any time.

In the flesh...er...in the text.
Just came back from dinner with hubby and our landlord. When we got out of the car, our landlord's cat, Jerry, gave us a little 'present'. Lovely dead chewed up mouse. Jerry got all excited when we pulled up and started flipping and tossing the mouse around for us. ("Look what I got!!! Look what I got!!!!) Then Daisy, our landlord's other cat, got in on the action too, and they both took turns flipping Mousey around.
Whatever craving for a desert I had was now gone.
Anywhoo....
PHIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To: darkangel82
Really? I'll take 45 over 80 ANYTIME.
I'm the complete opposite of myself 10 years ago. I LOVED the heat, but that was only when I had central A/C. I think it makes all the difference in the world when it comes to being able to tolerate the heat outside cause you can escape it. When you can't escape it, it becomes a whole new monster.

Hope you have fans, then.
Eighteen years of Ohio winters left me with a dislike for cold.

Heh heh heh...that's funny.
Cats actually do that as a token of niceness. They think in their little kitty minds that they are genuinely giving us something that we will enjoy, sort out of appreciation for taking care of them.
Our cat did that one time with a baby rabbit. Ew! But the worst part was that when we didn't take it, he decided to eat everything but the head. Double ew! I guess he was eating most of it and saving the head for us, like tablescraps.

lol.
good to see familiar faces drop in to say hi & some new ones adding their two cents.
It is amazing how so MANY of the regular threads are down in summer.
I must rest a bit & let my back recoup.. if I dont doze off, I will be back in a bit

Daisy kept flipping the mouse AT me. Like it was my turn to play with it. I'd step back 10 feet and she'd flip it at me. I'd step back again and she'd flip it at me again. UGH! She's so sketchy though, it's hilarious. When she flipped the dead mouse up in the air, it'd scare her and she'd run away, then come back up to it again, sniff it, bat it around a little, then flip it again and RUN!

It looks like I may not be around for a while on any of the threads as there has been a death in the family and my family needs me right now. My 10-year-old nephew died of leukemia yesterday and I am just too tired to deal with much besides that.
I will see all y'all in a few weeks.
