Possible virus problem: Keyboard acting funny; numeric key "four" not working, "dollar" not working either. Login screens acting funny as well; i.e. Login to Yahoo mail password field numerics either not entering or returning to start of password field, and arrow keys not working.
TIA
Might something have gotten under the key? Maybe the key is just stuck.
Are you on a laptop? If so, you might want to check that "Num Lock" isn't on or your function (Fn) key isn't stuck.
ditto
Updated to today or most recent? If so and no virus.
Re-boot. If same problem.
Try different keyboard.
Is it serial or usb keyboard?
Get Avast antivirus. It's superior to Norton and doesn't have spyware in it.

Time for a new keyboard
Sounds like a dying keyboard more than it does a virus. Did anything get on the keyboard lately?
I second the advice on Avast... Great software.
Sounds like your keyboard may have gone south. The electrical connections in a keyboard work in 'groups' of keys, not individually, so its possible that some connection within the group of keys that are giving you trouble has failed in some manner. Try a different keyboard and see if that helps.
Sounds more like you spit out your beer on your keyboard last time you read DUmmie Funnies.
Updated today just before I ran the virus scan. Rebooted too.
I just had a HUGE virus removed from my PC: EARTHLINK.
When trying to upgrade Earthlink, the PC started acting like it had a terrible virus. When we uninstalled it, the PC was fine. Earthlink is down the tubes. Terrible server.
Also, I concur with those who suggest a new keyboard. They really don't last that long, and they're quite inexpensive these days.
Good luck.
Try the online antivirus from Trend Micro.

That said, it does sound like it could be a faulty keyboard.
Try plugging in a USB keyboard. If it is a laptop, the ribbon cables connecting keyboard, montitor, etc. can get damaged quite easily.
One symptom of a virus or spyware would be the inability to update your antivirus or visit sites like Microsoft.com or other security websites.
Check you hosts file to see if it has been modified. The hosts file is a local file that defines the address of a domain name. Normally this is done by an internet DNS server, but the file can be used to prevent access to certain sites or force a redirect to another site.
It should only have a few entries formated like this...
127.0.0.1 localhost
localhost is your computer, so defining another site as 127.0.0.1 will keep you from accessing the site.
If it has entries like...
127.0.0.1 symantec.com
Then you may have a virus or spyware.
The hosts file is in the
c:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\
directory. It is a plain text file that you can open in notepad.
1) agitate keys soundly using each one of three items in the listed order:
a) fingers
b) fists
c) baseball bat
still not responding? see step 2)
2) repeat step 1 until you realize its easier to go out and buy new $12.00 keyboard.
Thank you for using Keyboard Problems Solvers. Have a nice day :^)
Thanx to all...
Good to hear all's well that ends well.
Sounds like a messed up keyboard. Have you tried a reboot?
Messed up keyboard it was. Got the 10yr old one plugged in and it's working fine. Watch this: 4$ $4 $4 4$ 4$$4$4$4$4$4
