NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP): Several concerts on the Dixie Chicks' "Accidents & Accusations'' tour have been canceled after slow ticket sales, but the group says it has replaced them with other dates.
Kansas City, Houston, St. Louis, Memphis and Knoxville are among 14 cities no longer on the original schedule released in May, according to a revised itinerary posted Thursday on the Dixie Chick's Web site.
Other shows, including Nashville, Los Angeles, Denver and Phoenix, have been pushed back to later dates.
The North American leg of the tour kicked off July 21 in Detroit. Billboard magazine and other trade publications have reported lackluster sales in some markets, particularly in the South and Midwest.
The band suffered a backlash among many conservative fans after lead singer Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 on the eve of war in Iraq that the trio was "ashamed'' President George W. Bush was from their home state of Texas.
Country radio stations dropped them from their playlists and have been slow to welcome them back, despite strong sales of their latest album, "Taking the Long Way.''
Group spokeswoman Kathy Allmand said Monday that the total number of North American dates remains the same, with several Canadian cities added in place of the U.S. shows.
The trio released a statement last week attributing the changes to attempts to "accommodate demand'' and said more dates might be added next year.
The group also said the adjustments will allow them to promote the documentary "Dixie Chicks: Shut up and Sing,'' for the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
"This is a year where we weren't sure what to expect,'' the Dixie Chicks said. "We were prepared for a lot of things as we figure out this new phase of our career.''
"We hope that our fans who were looking forward to a stop that is no longer on the tour will be able to join us at a nearby arena this fall, and we are sorry for any confusion or inconvenience these changes have caused.''
The album, which has more of a rock edge than their previous releases, spent several weeks at the top of the country albums chart and has sold more than 1 million copies.

Fortuneayely they have been able to replace the cancelled performances with dates in Havanna, Caracas, Teheran, Paris and Damascus. That Maines cick really put the count in country music!

I'm sure Clinton would give them a private audience as well.

The trio released a statement last week attributing the changes to attempts to "accommodate demand'' and said more dates might be added next year. Gotta love this double-speak ... "accomodate demand" means that there is NO demand, and to accomodate nothing from nothing equals nothing.
Otherwise, their reason for cancelling last weeks show at Jones Beach is specious at best ... "due to high heat", and Jones Beach's version of it "first time we've ever had to cancel a show due to high heat".
Nonesense!
I've been going to concerts at Jones Beach Theatre since they first set it up for rock concerts in the late 80's .. and can tell ya from experience that this particular venue has its share of nasty weather conditions foist upon it. It's on the beach, its on the shoreline ... its the highest structure around the region, and it takes its share of Mother Nature's beatings! I've been to concerts there where its rained, where its thunderstormed, high winds blowing the audio away, where (yes) there was (you guessed it) HIGH HEAT TOO! And the ONLY show that has ever been cancelled was halfway thru a Sarah McLachlan/Chieftains show in 1995 where a powerful lightning storm was hitting all around and seriously threatening the immediate high-point on the horizen JB Theatre.
High Heat my a$$ .. the Dixie Chicks cancelled because they didn't sell diddly squat enough tickets ......

She's looking hot too, huh? Could fit in with the Addamses or Munsters.
She looks exactly like my 35 year old neighbor in Texas.
He spent his time "sooping up" his primer gray colored 1976 AMC with shag carpet, a "barefoot" gas pedal, and countless other vulgarities. Of course he always claimed that "this sumbitch can light up like a Christmas tree" and "flat-out walk the dog" but I never recall actually seeing it leave the makeshift carport he'd built to "protect it from hail". He mainly used it as a place to smoke pot so as to avoid being caught by his parents (with whom he lived, above their detached garage).
His only other pastime was keeping the fire in a rusty 55 gallon drum ablaze while "drinkin forties" (large 40oz bottles of beer) until he puked and/or fell down. He made his money doing odd jobs and, if he was to be believed, playing pool.
They could be twins.

I wonder why almost no articles mention that they also insulted their fans ( now former ), Lubbock Texas, Reba and Toby Keith plus their fans, and many others. The MSM act like the Dixie Harlots are only getting grief for what they said about President Bush. Reporting the other insults would hurt their "victim" status.

It's not that their audience is shrinking, they're just becoming more "selective".

My pleasure marmar. It seems to me that most people find a story most humorous when it's based in absolute truth. And one only has to tell it as they see it (with as much detail as seems relevant) to be considered someone that has a way with words.
I don't consider myself a wordsmith as much as I consider myself a sh*tsmith. Meaning I am someone who experiences more than his fair share of sh*t. When I tell others of what it was like to sail through this or that sh*tstorm they always laugh. I laugh too, later on. But I usually don't say it to be humorous as much as to gripe or cry for help.
Speaking of cries for help, here's a thread for which at least three people consider me famous. This particular sh*tstorm started on a Wednesday night in April of 2004. Here's two links to the thread: The first is to the beginning of the incident and the second is to a broad summary of what resulted. I consider the proposed solutions to my dilemma funnier than the dilemma itself, so I urge you to read as much of the thread as you can stomach before looking at the second link. Enjoy.

Because if they are being shunned because of Bush they are Martyrs. Otherwise they are just stupid.
