In the nearly ten years since Jon Benet Ramseys death, Ive spent little time pondering the identity of that little girls murderer. Ive known the answer to that question for years. And so have you. But one time several years ago - during the height of the media coverage of the case - I did hear one interesting assertion about the parents of Jon Benet Ramsey; namely, that there was absolutely no evidence they had ever sexually abused their little girl.
When I heard the assertion that there was absolutely no evidence of sexual abuse of Jon Benet Ramsey, I immediately recalled a picture of the little girl when she was around the age of four. She was wearing a brightly colored strapless dress that matched her brightly colored lipstick. Her makeup was as heavy as that of any hooker or drag queen in San Francisco.
This begs a fundamental question: Are we sexually abusing our little girls when we dress them up to look like prostitutes? Of course, I would submit that we are.
Fortunately, when the Ramsey case broke it was very unusual to see a couple dressing a small child like a hooker. Unfortunately, today it is commonplace. An episode I witnessed the other day illustrates just how little parents seem to think before allowing their little girls to dress and carry themselves in an entirely-too-adult fashion.
On my daily jog though my neighborhood I ran by the house of a man I know fairly well. His garage door was open and music was blaring out of a jam box inside - in fact, the music was so loud it was barely recognizable. But I could tell the song was These boots are made for walking, which was popularized by Nancy Sinatra in the 1960s. His two grandchildren were dancing in the driveway to the recent remake of the tune, sung by Jessica Simpson.
As my neighbors two grandchildren were standing in the driveway - while gyrating their hips like a couple of prostitutes - I noticed they were both wearing cutoff Daisy Duke style short and halter tops. The oldest girl looked like she was wearing mascara. She is 11 years old, by the way. Her younger sister is nine.
There is obviously something very wrong psychologically with the parent who actually dresses a four year old girl like a prostitute. There is also something wrong with the parent who allows a nine or even an eleven year old girl to dress herself like one not to mention carry herself like one, too. It is not cute. It is simply crude and indecent.
But there is more to the equation than bad taste, here. In todays world, people who do not make sure their little girls are dressed like little girls are exposing them to extreme danger.
Shortly after I finished my afternoon jog, I went to one of the numerous websites (http://www.mapsexoffenders.com/) that can be used to locate registered sex offenders. I wanted to know how far those two little girls the ones dancing like hookers - were from the nearest convicted pedophile. The answer: about 500 yards.
Parents of small children (especially little girls) need to do the following things after finishing this short but important column:
Log on to the internet and find the nearest registered sex offenders in your neighborhood.
Make sure you voice your complaints to local retailers who sell sexually provocative clothes marketed for little girls.
Make a note of the names of the companies that manufacture inappropriate clothing for children next time you see these products. Write them and tell them exactly why you will never, ever buy their products.
Tune in occasionally to The OReilly Factor to keep track of Bills segments on Jessicas law a measure designed to impose mandatory 25-year sentences on first-time child molesters.
Make sure that your lawmakers know you will not support them unless they support Jessicas Law. In other words, impose a simple ideological litmus test on all of your representatives.
I hope all of my readers will give serious consideration to the advice I have proffered today. Even if you reject some of my specific points, keep my general thesis in mind. Our little girls will be women far sooner than we would like. For the time being we should just let them be little girls.
"The parents were beaming as they proudly watched their little girls act like sex-starved seducers! It was the most disgusting display I have ever seen. To this day, it makes me sick to think about it. Call me politically incorrect but those Mexican parents made us sick!!!!!"
OK, you're politically incorrect. A title you should wear with pride.
I think you're on point, but this is not a phenomenon restricted to the hispanic population.
Amen!! I saw a mother with two young children and she had on a Itty Bitty MINI SKIRT!!! I don't care how young the moms are, they should change their way of dressing to something more maternal looking.....it's called setting an example.
I'm inclined to think it was the son. Easy to see him maybe not getting his way about something, then just losing it and taking it out on his PrimaDonna sister.
Mom and Dad of course would try to cover it up.
Cool it, NEWBIE!!
She's a newbie from DU i suspect.
We know a Mexican family (probably parents are illegal) where the daughter was pregnant at 15. I went to the little boy's first birthday party and the then 16 year old mom was going to get their pictures done beforehand and wearing an extremely revealing dress. I was really shocked at the dress and felt a little embarrassed. Well one of her younger sisters used to play with my oldest son even though she was a couple of years older. Well we hadn't seen her for awhile one time, and I couldn't believe how she had changed from a 9/10 year old little girl to a developing way too rapidly 11 year old. Now she can't do anything about her very fast developing breasts, but her parents could do something about the way she was revealing them. It was a shock. Unfortunately, I see her going the way of her sister--pregnant at 15 if not before. The oldest sister is now 17 and expecting #2.
I see it just the way you do. Her brother because of sibling jealousy, abused and murdered the girl. The parents knew it and protected him and in doing so, made themselves appear guilty. I know he was under 10 at the time. I wonder where he is today. I think they sent him out of the country to school at the time.
On the subject of dressing their baby daughter like a hooker and letting her perform on stage, they are guilt of that. That was an outrage!
Amen...school uniforms are great. Helps the weaker parents say no to their kids easier also.
Welcome to FreeRepublic...nice of you to drop by.
So - you are saying that the scenarios described in the article are A-OK?
I don't see anywhere in the article or replies that anyone is saying what you said. Only that dressing little girls like sluts is a bad idea.
But your response that pokes fun at people who think that dressing little girls as prostitutes is a bad idea - reeks of one who enjoys little girls dressed that way....
I would think it better to homeschool instead, thus avoiding the issue of what can and cannot be worn to school.
Better control over teen angst and petulance; one of the many reasons why homeschooling makes sense.
I agree. Read her posts. DU comes up.
If a kid is in grade school and wearing makeup, and thongs, and its a pattern, that isn't personal self expression, its an attempt to fit into something that is seriously wrong.
I want to blame something, but I know its more of a problem with parents being permissive, and letting their children become bullseyes and then blaming society.
Out of curiosity, I put in my zip code; rather sobering to find a marker for a sex-offender just two short blocks from the local elementary school!
"I say we take it one step further, lets cover them head to toe and not allow them outside without our permission. We all know that wearing skimpy clothing and makeup is just asking to be raped or abused...lets make it illegal!"
The sarcasm is neither appreciated nor called for. No one here has suggested that women or girls be clad in burkhas.
Given your newness to the site as well as your exhibited attitude, my first inclination is to dismiss you as a common DU troll. But hope springs eternal, so maybe you'll read on and learn.
Welcome to FR.
It's been at least 20 years ago that the cheerleaders at the University of South Carolina ("the Gamecocks") had the words "Go Cocks" on the butt part of their panties under those short skirts. As a college guy, it's easy to find that rather...em... cheeky, but as one gets older, you think "wonder what the parents thought of their little darling wearing that?".
Applied logically, that is the arguement used against the death penalty, and pretty much any and every single sentence for first time offenders.
Its an arguement used quite often, to prevent all jail terms from being raised and to grant lower terms to first time offenders.
Keep in mind, that sexual offences have the highest recidivism rate of any crime.
Amen!
My 12 year old twin daughters were taught from an early age what 'age appropriate' clothing was. A two year old with her tummy hanging out is cute, but on a 10 year old, it's trashy.
Shopping for school clothes last year, I was amazed at the amount of clothing with words printed across the seat.
My daughters rapidly noticed it too. One of them even asked why they bothered printing anything other than 'Look At My Butt' across there, since that was what it meant.
:-)
Wow! But don't get any lewd ideas guys.
We're not talking burkas, brain-trust, we're talking about not letting them wear micro shorts and minis, tight baby-t shirts that say Porn Star or Tramp in pink glitter, shorts that say JUICY across the butt, etc.
Or do you not get the subtle nuance of that? (You should know all about nuance, aren't most libs complaining that we dunderheaded right wingers don't understand 'nuance')
