It really helps to spread honey over all exposed areas of your body before venturing outdoors.

It is also known today why honey has an antiseptic effect: when producing honey, bees add an enzyme called glucose-oxidase.

That's as may be, but there's a much simpler phenomenon at play, here. The high sugar content of they honey sucks the bacteria dry by osmosis. Plain old granulated sugar will work just as well.

Odd. Aren't you supposed to never give honey to a child because of botulism?

But it protects against other stuff.

I seriously wonder how this, and so many other ancient medicines, have been lost within a thousand years or so ago, only to be found again now.

Makes one wonder how much other ancient technology was known back then, lost to civilization??
