The NCAA will consider expanding its ban of championship events in South Carolina, possibly disallowing baseball and football teams from hosting postseason games, because the Confederate flag is displayed on Statehouse grounds.

Gosh, it's funny those coaches didn't mind that the Confederate flag flew over the Arkansas governor's house when Clinton was governor of that state.

"those coaches didn't mind that the Confederate flag flew over the Arkansas governor's house when Clinton was governor of that state."

Arkansas' first black governor?

Good point. Isn't the same true in Gore's home state of TN?

Why the NCAA has to get involved in politics and boycotts in the first place is beyond me. The only question should be, are there accredited colleges there? If so, treat them equally - the NCAA is a college association, not a Black Power association. Being used as a political tool doesn't make the NCAA look good at all.

It would be rather entertaining if SC and other states demonstrate the value behind those Dixie flags and pull out of these national conferences.

Hmmmm.

I think its about time to replace the NCAA. They keep athletes as captive labor to make money off them and deny them the right to earn a living.

"demonstrate the value behind those Dixie flags and pull out of these national conferences."

That would REALLY make a statement....without the SEC in the tournaments, they wouldn't have to share revenue with NCAA, AND, the remaining tournament "winners" would be tarnished badly, and appear in the record books with an asterisk !

South Carolina is a nice state. I have visited there and thouroughly enjoyed my stay. However, SC is not a post season hotbed for college sports.

This is pure puffery on the NCAA's part. Hit on the little guy like the schoolyard bully and you might be seen as a hero. The NCAA is fortunate that the states of California (Rose Bowl), Texas (Cotton Bowl) and Florida (Orange Bowl) don't have Confederate references in their state flags. What the hell would they do if that was the case? Punt? Chances are that they wouldn't say a word.

I live in the North, but I believe that the Confederate Flag is part of our heritage. We must remember our heritage.

Another course would be to eliminate black coaches. That would appear to be a better solution.

Interesting the links to Vandy (remember the Confederate Hall renaming fraud?) and the SWAC has an all black staff. Wonder if that's common.

I agree, the NCAA is a slavemaster. It has a phenomenally good scam going - in what other arena is highly competitive talent completely uncompensated? NCAA activities have nothing at all to do with education, anyway, they are the legacy of the long-forgotten age when athletics and physical health were considered an essential part of a well-rounded education. Now that they've divorced the two completely (what NCAA star could get into his college on academic merit? 1 out of 100, tops), it is only logical to continue the process and spin off the NCAA as an independent business.

With the significant problems of minorities today, you would think the NCAA and NAACP would try to do something that would ACTUALLY have a positive impact on their lives instead of meaningless gestures. For example, how about some creative means of lowering the illegitimacy rates?
