ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - July 19, 2006 - A University of Illinois researcher had discovered a fourth copy of a rare letter Abraham Lincoln had written by to the nation's governors in 1861.
The letter John Lupton found Tuesday in the Lehigh County Historical Society's holdings was one Lincoln wrote as part of an unsuccessful ratification process for a constitutional amendment Congress adopted during the term of his predecessor, President James Buchanan, that would have made slavery the law of the land.
The president remembered for abolishing slavery had been willing to push the amendment as "kind of a carrot to the Southern states" if that would preserve the union, said Lupton, associate director of the Papers of Abraham Lincoln Project of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
"But even by that point, it was too late. By that time, the Southern states felt Lincoln's election was an affront," Lupton said. In fact, the letter discovered in Allentown was addressed to "His Excellency the Governor of the State of Florida," which had seceded from the union two months earlier.
Until Tuesday, only three of the letters were known to have survived. "It's a very cool document," Lupton said.
Joseph Garrera, the historical society director, said he will consult with the society's board to determine the best way to display the document and try to figure out exactly who donated the letter.

On the contrary STAND, I simply referred to appropriate Army Regulation on the matter. Here is the section that specifically covers shoulder sleeve insignia for retired personnel.
"Retired personnel are authorized to wear the shoulder sleeve insignia for U.S. Army Retirees on the left shoulder. The insignia consists of a white cloth disc with a blue border, and an inner white disc with a red border, which bears a blue and white adaptation of the coat of arms of the United States. The outer disk that surrounds the coat of arms contains the inscription “UNITED STATES ARMY” in red letters at the top, and the word “RETIRED” in blue letters at the bottom."

NO patches of ANY sort are AUTHORIZED on the MESS DRESS (white or blue), on the Army WHITE uniform OR on the DRESS BLUE uniform. and they NEVER have been AUTHORIZED!

"Army Regulations" are for the GUIDANCE of the COMMANDER & STAFF. they did NOT come down from "the mountain, graven in stone".

...for example you cannot capitalize "STAND WATIE" since for some unknown reason never proved by STAND himself, it is disrespectful to capitalize any part of a Cherokee's name.
Stand Watie clearly stated why he continues the maniacal idiocy over the name bit. He claimed on one Civil War related thread it was to "irritate Damnyankees" which is beyond typical for that backward, neo-confederate fanatic.
Maybe Mr Stand can also reiterate his long standing relationship with Klan & Neo-Nazi lawyer Kirk Lyons?
