ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - July 19, 2006 - A University of Illinois researcher had discovered a fourth copy of a rare letter Abraham Lincoln had written by to the nation's governors in 1861.
The letter John Lupton found Tuesday in the Lehigh County Historical Society's holdings was one Lincoln wrote as part of an unsuccessful ratification process for a constitutional amendment Congress adopted during the term of his predecessor, President James Buchanan, that would have made slavery the law of the land.
The president remembered for abolishing slavery had been willing to push the amendment as "kind of a carrot to the Southern states" if that would preserve the union, said Lupton, associate director of the Papers of Abraham Lincoln Project of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
"But even by that point, it was too late. By that time, the Southern states felt Lincoln's election was an affront," Lupton said. In fact, the letter discovered in Allentown was addressed to "His Excellency the Governor of the State of Florida," which had seceded from the union two months earlier.
Until Tuesday, only three of the letters were known to have survived. "It's a very cool document," Lupton said.
Joseph Garrera, the historical society director, said he will consult with the society's board to determine the best way to display the document and try to figure out exactly who donated the letter.

It's not hard to reason why you would want to do so either, you are a disruptor, plain and simple you can't allow any adult conversations to proceed about the south on this board, you can't allow history to be examined, you can't allow the motives of the principles in the civil war to be studied and critiqued, you can't allow any discussion that points out why the democrats were wrong to rebel. You can't allow the free and open discussion of ideas and opinions in this forum that are in direct conflict with those points you aspire to profess.
In short you can't allow anything that discusses the south in any way that doesn't fit your template of how it should be viewed to occur. That makes you and your southerbuddies no better then the commies or the democrats when it comes to burying the truth beneath a barrage of attacks.

Even if it were all true, you couldn't be a more pathetic excuse for a southerner in the 21st century, wanna flag a confederate flag without being thought a racist, stop acting like a racist in the first place, stop hanging around with racists, and start actually believing that it was the democrats that ruined the south in the first place in so many ways that it isn't funny, then maybe, just maybe we'll be allowed to honor those that fell defending their land and homes because of the idiocy of the democrats.
Or don't and slowly watch as anything with a confederate flag get banned by the democrats for the purposes of political power plays and southern history get buried or rewritten so that their part in the Civil war becomes unknown, it won't be long until democrats in the civil war are known as the "southern" party in the history books. all it takes is two generations of children taught that way, and the democrats can erase their part in the civil war, just like they erased their violent opposition to civil rights. No where in textbooks today will you find that Democrats attacked civil rights protesters with dogs or water cannons, or that every politician that said "they shall not pass" in front of a nonintigrated school was a democrat. Two generations STAND that's all it took to rewrite history.
But what do you care so long as Lincoln and the Republicans are portrayed as the villains, right?

the firing on FT Sumter was in response to linoln's LYING. he had stated in a letter that the fort would NOT be "resupplied", but rather would be VACATED at the earliest possible moment. (unfortunately for DY apologists, lincoln's letter still exists.) LYING has CONSEQUENCES.
the BLAME for the loss of a MILLION PEOPLE in the UNJUST & UNNECESSARY war against the new dixie republic MUST, in the interest of both TRUTH & common DECENCY, be laid at lincoln's feet. Yeah. And I like reading the descriptions, for they are quite accurate. However, I really do think Clinton simply doesn't have the same, "Mean Streak" that Lincoln had, even though he'll do just about anything for $$$$. But Hillary does. Anyway, Lincoln just had a special hatred for the South, and that made it all extra easy for him to obliterate as many Southerners as he chose via his henchmen. Many bad decisions are being made today as a result of the false information that, Lincoln sits at the right hand of God...
they seem "joined at the hip" & interchangeable.
