Child Star Dakota Fanning Films Rape Scene
It's beyond the pale even for Hollywood.
Dakota Fanning, last seen on the screen starring alongside Tom Cruise in "War of the Worlds," turned 12 years old last February.
Now, in an apparent career advancement move, the young actress has been drawn into filming a scene that requires the character she plays to be raped.
The title of the movie is "Hounddog."
In addition to Fanning, the film also features Sean Penn's significant other, Robin Wright Penn.
Fanning has reportedly already filmed the violent scene.
It is astonishing that anyone would advocate such a career decision for a pre-adolescent. But this is precisely what Fanning's mother Joy has done, claiming that the role simply challenges her daughter as an actress.
The New York Daily News recently reported that it is part of an Oscar pursuit; an attempt to emulate Jodie Foster's portrayal of a child prostitute in "Taxi Driver," which snagged Foster the coveted statuette.
Fanning's agent told CNN Headline News that the rape scene was tastefully shot. She added, "We are very proud of this movie."
The Left Coast Report notes with regret that Tinseltown continues to move the decency marker while some people see the exploitation of the innocent as just another day at the office.

How much more perverted can Hollywood get?
Will Tom Cruise and his Scientology buddies take a stand against this?
"...the rape scene was tastefully shot"
I'm speechless.
I know folks who work in Hollywood and we often discuss movies like this with phrases like "Is this what someone dreamed they'd do one day when they hoped for a career in movies?"
Oh, man, that's nauseating.
Why is this news? What kind of rape scene? I remember seeing A Time to Kill and there was a rape scene in there, well snapshots of what is supposed to be a rape. Is this full on rape? Also, someone tell me how you tastefully portray a rape scene!!!
It seems that the lessons Alfred Hitchcock taught us in cinema are lost on the 'enlightened'. Nothing is as graphic, as scary or as sensuous as our imagination.
Psycho is, and continues to set the standard; yet Hitchcock didn't need to make a 'slasher' flick.
If a rape of a child was required for a movie (and I can't imagine why it would be); the camera fade out would be far more dramatic than the actual violent act itself.
Dakota Fanning will be Tom Cruise's fourth wife.
See, her filming a rape scene isn't the sickest thing you'll read today.

You're not kidding!
I just saw Hitchcock's "The Birds" for the first time since I was seven (I'm now 46).
Now I remember why I couldn't watch the end and had nightmares for months!
Dakota Fanning is a remarkable actress. In practically every film I've seen of hers she is simply the best thing in it. She is really gifted.
Yes, she is one talented kid, and I am not going to watch this movie. I don't like depictions of children being hurt or killed.
And the NAG gals probably won't raise a stink at all.
There was a time in my life that I thought it would be fun to be an actress. I was in a few college plays and watching the other actresses allow their bodies to be used in a way that embarrassed me made me change my mind. I don't know how they separated their personal space from the actions they were asked to do. Couldn't do it myself. I won't be seeing this movie.
When I was a little girl I saw Ingmar Bergman's movie THE VIRGIN SPRING. It had a very graphic rape scene. There was no nudity, but it was graphic. I think it may have been the first of it's kind. I was so disturbed by it because I was so young...Today, 40 years later, I still think about it.
My family knows the kid who is playing her best friend. I hope he's not the one who's supposed to do this. I doubt it, but he's such a good kid that I'm concerned for him. He and his sister are both incredibly talented performers. I've been hoping the movie would do well, just so that his career will take off. This news is not good.
Do you remember the flack that Brooke Shields Mom got when she let Brooke do both Pretty Baby and the Blue Lagoon? Didn't hurt Brooke's career.
Nope... sure didn't.
I just don't believe I would want my child at that age involved with something like this.
I guess that's why we continue them to lead as normal lives as possible, while continuing to keep our faith filled values in sync with their lives.
It's about being noticed. Dakota Fanning also played a sexual assault victom in CSI, this is just the next step forward. If she did anything like the roles that got Melanie Griffith, Brooke Shields, or Jodie Foster in the door when they were kids, moviemakers would roll their eyes and sigh that they've seen it done already. "Always make the audience suffer as much as possible." And nothing makes the audience suffer more than hitting them in their virtues. Did we need a graphic portrayal of Jesus's last days? Did we need a five-year anniversary movie of the 9-11 attacks? Of course not, but the short-sighted opinion is that it makes for ground-breaking--and thus entertaining--cinema. And let's face it, pedophiles are the target of a prosecution not seen since the witchhunts. It doesn't even have to be a rape scene, but that just adds more fuel to the fires of outrage. Oh sure, one or two will cry for boycott, but the majority will go to see it, just so they won't have to hear "but you haven't even seen it." They'll see it, realize it wasn't as bad as all that, maybe even recognize the pure message against the vile existance of pedophilia. And wonder when the next Pirates of the Carribean movie is coming out.
