DFW-area police agencies are in pursuit of a possibly stolen tractor-trailer rig. The steer tires have been destroyed and the truck is continuing at a low rate of speed westbound on I-20 through Arlington as I write this.

This apparently has been going on for several hours.

Dallas police chase woman taken hostage

An 18-wheeler is leading police on a chase Sunday afternoon that has lasted more than two hours.

It began about 4 p.m. at a truck stop in the Collin County town of Fairview, where it was reported that a woman had been taken hostage. The chase went through Plano and Carrollton, then into central Dallas County and Oak Cliff, where the woman was seen at the wheel. More than 15 police vehicles were chasing the red-cabbed tractor-trailer, whose front tires had been destroyed.

The truck went over the Trinity River near downtown Dallas before turning around slowly and heading back into Oak Cliff. Interstate 20 West, 2 miles east of Interstate 35, was closed.

“They’re just letting it run its course,” said Dallas police Lt. Rick Watson, who said his department’s tactical unit had been called to assist.

The woman could be seen waving to motorists traveling in the opposite direction. Police were advising people to stay away from the chase, but children could be seen following the police procession, and onlookers collected on overpasses.

A man wielding what appeared to be a handgun could be seen in the cab of the truck, crouched between two seats. At one point, about 5:20 p.m., he could be seen waving and leaning out of the passenger side.

They passed my exit a few minutes ago... I resisted the urge to run to the overpass and wave. Good grief, what's wrong with people? Either channel 8 or ch 5 reported that the actor wanted to "do something dramatic today and go out by suicide by cop", according to his sister who spoke to him by phone yesterday.

I witnessed a police chase on an expressway outside Tulsa. I had no clue what was going on but I did see the car race by with cops. It was hard to tell if the car was unmarked or the perp's vehicle. About 10 miles down the road, the guys face was buried in dirt, handcuffed and thinking, "I should not have stolen this S2000."

After September 11, there was a police chase on Fox with the cops chasing a flatbed semi loaded with lumber. It was a pretty cool chase, but as I recall, that was one of the first times that they stopped covering Sept. 11 to show something else.

You'll love this: a reporter by the name of Bob Greene, when describing the bad guy, said "he has a gun and is wearing a white shirt, uh, uh,or a wife-beater" LOL The anchor was choking back his amusement.

Black male, believed to be armed, holding a white female hostage and forcing her to drive the 18-wheeler. Front axle of the truck is running on just rims, tires are gone. Idiots going the opposite direction are pulling over to the center median and getting out with their children to watch. They better hope the suspect doesn't go nutty and starts shooting.

BTW, had the truck not struck a police car (thus classifying the incident as violent), by policy the Dallas police would not have been allowed to chase him.
