I know you didn't say she was. Sac said it on the old thread. I just wanted to reiterate that the security guard is not an off-duty cop and since you were discussing the subject, I interjected the point there. So it wasn't intended as a correction to what you said; merely an addition. :)
It was reported that one or more of them is owned by some company in NJ, but that could easily be a front. I agree it's possible, and not completely implausible, but I don;t think it's likely. Occam's Razor.
Either way, it's a cinch almost no arrests are being made in Durham County for prostitution. And the data from yesterday shows that what arrests are actually made are done by the Durham Sheriff and not by the Durham Police.
Looking at the 1994 - 1998 data, it seems the change in enforcement took place in 1995 - 1996.

That's interesting. There's also a notiable change in arrests for sexual offences (other) and family offenses around that time. I believe that's when Stephens went from being DA to Superior Court, and was followed by Jim Hardin.
Can a DA or a mayor tell a police department to ignore certain crimes in favor of others? Was the growing crime rate causing an image problem that making fewer arrests would hide?

I'm not sure how much investigative reporting the N&O is up for when it comes to this case. There seems to be a total lack of curiousity and they tend to get their stories off the AP wire. Pretty strange since this whole thing is going on in their backyard.
amazing fact about our "justice" system" ....that you can have no phsyical evidence, no witnesses, no confessions, no nothing, yet still convict on the mere word from a drugged up, drunken, morally challenged and known whore......

It's been one stop after another for freed inmate Alan Newton, who was released from prison last week after 22 years in jail for a crime he did not commit.
After a week of parties, picnics and public appearances, Newton, a former bank teller from the Bronx, is adjusting to life on the outside after DNA testing cleared him in the vicious rape and beating of a Bronx woman whose shaky identification sent him away for nearly half his life.
DNA from Newton that was compared to a sperm sample recovered as evidence after the rape showed conclusively that Newton had nothing to do with the brutal attack.

I think your conclusion that something is rotten in Durham in relation to the free operation of prostitution is spot on, although I'm not sure it's the courthouse crowd.
The statistics you posted speak for themselves. It's pretty clear graft is going on. Should anybody decide to start an investigation, the vice detail with DPD would be the place to start.
If there's a conspiracy, it had to have began as an opportunistic view of events that night in hindsight because nobody forced the lax guys to have a party and call in strippers.
My thinking on the CourtHouse Crowd is that like any bureaucratic organization, very little can be kept secret. Maybe a lot of them weren't in on it, but I'll wager most of the Crowd knows about it...
