O, wait - except when they flippantly decide to look at instant replay, on TV, to Red Card a legend.
The Italians knew they were going to lose with Zidane in the game, so they tried hard to get under his skin... it worked... or the Referees took care of the job ($$$$$$$$$$)
Back in High School Football (American) some of my teammates would cheat in that manner (They would even fake injury just to stop the clock and get an injury timeout) - I never consider those wins that we took because of such behavior as worthy wins.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't say that. I criticized the behavior of the Italian side. Taking that to mean I don't like Italians is your flying leap.
many thanks to Poland for Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose.
btw... what do you think about the Twins that lead Poland now ?

>>For the first time ever, I not only liked the team´s way to play, I LOVED it.
In the past I disliked watching the German national team play footie. Boring defensive soccer.
This WC they really played well on both ends of the pitch. I enjoyed all their matches I was able to see (1 group match, 1/4, semi, 3rd place). And a great job hosting the World Cup. Look forward to seeing them do well in Euro 2008.
Thanks for the WC threads.
Yeah, I only "liked" the German games in earlier tournaments because they´re MY team. :) But now, they played as you said on both ends of the pitch.
There are rumors, that the World Cup 2010 will be taken from SA, because they´re far behind the timetable. The decision about that will be made in 2007 - and it could be given to the US (most likely) or Germany (unlikely - because we hosted it two times, and it should be non-European host this time to make it a global and not only European event). If it´s in the US, I´ll come for the games and show you how to party!
Funny you mention that, I was just thinking about the same thing yesterday, it's not unprecedented, 1986 was originally awarded to Colombia, but later was given to Mexico. I thought that if for some reason South Africa wasn't capable, the US would be the logical choice.
Of course the US is the logical choice: only a - without arrogance - 1st world nation has the capabilities to organize such an event in such a short time. You (or/and we) have the infrastructure: adequate hotels for the foreign fans, press corps, delegations, the roads, airports, cars, not to forget the stadiums and the security organisation. Although it would be great to become World Champion in your own country 2010 ;-) I WOULD hope that the US gets it.
BUT then again, South Africa and the black continent in general need such an event to show the world that they can do that. I mean, the World Cup would be a major boost for Africa. So, I hope that SA can fix their problems quite fast. And if they fail, I´ll book tickets to my 2nd most loved country.
The players would need at least two days to recover. Playing the next day would not work well. Playing three days after would be better.
Of course if the games are in the US, it would more likely allow Klinsi to stay on as German coach.
Juergen and co. have nothing to feel bad about. A young squad that played great through the tournament and lost.
Not a bad place to be looking ahead.
Ah still bitter about Italy's great victory for No. 4?
That's too bad. (No one likes to listen to a sore loserman.)
You've been a class act on this board despite the occasional attacks that any supporter gets from the losers/trolls. It the US were fortunate to get the games again, I'd be happy to toast and host you in NY.
It's great to see folks celebrate their team without being sore losers. And you are the model for good behavior.
(In 94 I was in 7 cities and saw 14 games inlcuding all of Italy's. It could get worse.)
:)
Maybe the over 1 billion US $ the FIFA is shelling out to pay for the infrastructure is going to help it.
I guess SA will end up with some top notch stadiums and nothing to do in them afterwards.
Thanks, you too contributed to these threads with your cordial and refreshing support for a team that not many expected to win this world cup. Italy isn´t a bad winner, though maybe the luckiest. I got over it (see # 459 ;-) and am looking to the future. New York is a great city, and I´m glad that I´ve visited it before. Is there still a Little Italy? Last time I was there, the Asians were gaining land (say: streets).
Until the election for FIFA presidency 2007 isn´t over (Blatter needs the African votes), we cannot continue speculating. After it, we may very well hear more news and maybe even a decision.
Personally, I doubt that 1 b. US $ is enough money to build roads, stadiums, and satisfy the demand of hotels, cars. We haven´t yet spoken of a security system. Of course, I hope that my concerns are not reasoned. After all, we remember the situation before the Athens 2004 Olympics... but this time, it´s Africa and not a EU-member state.
Given the overall performance throughout the last 4 years, Italy was the best team out of the semi-finalists. Italy hasn´t lost more than a dozen games in a row, which cannot be said of Germany. Your defense was and is the key to your success. You were only beaten by yourself: foul yesterday that led to the penalty and the own goal against the US.
Well they got some infrastructure there - ZA is not afghanistan.
