Euro coins and paper currency need to be stamped with the winner of the World Cup...remind everyone who won for 4 years at a time!
"Walkin' past the trophy on his way out of the stadium. What a disgrace."
Indeed, a disgraceful way to end his career. I've never seen such a gesture in my whole life of watching football. Could it be a cultural issue - a muslime cultural issue, that is?
"Cheers to Germany for a fantastic job hosting the World Cup and to the Italians."
Loved the ceremonies of the assignment of the cup and acknowledgement of the world champions. However, did not like all that jungle music in the closing ceremony before the match.
Still, Germany did a truly fantastic job at the end. The very best I've seen. Kudos to Germany.
I guarantee for you that most of the world was rooting for Italy, who can stand the French? :)
It may well be a cultural issue. I think Zidan temper was shown in other games, but this is the first time we see it in the world cup, in the final, and in front of 1.5 billion viewers. What an A** HOLE.
Best match of the World Cup 2006 was Italy-Germany semi-final.
We lost one in '94 on penalty kicks...we win one in '06 on penalty kicks.
It's not the nicest way of winning a WC, but a win is a win is a win.
All the best to Brazil in 2010.
Seems France can only score and win a match through penalty kicks.
"Best match of the World Cup 2006 was Italy-Germany semi-final."
I agree.
Then they should play PKs in the second day. A third day would be too much.
Congrats to Italy!!!
Probably Materazzi told him that prophet Muhhamad stinks. No Arab could stand it :)
Congratulations Italia :)
With Messi and Tevez, Argentina has to be a big favorite already for 2010.
I did watch the USA v. Italy match. The USA never really got a shot on goal. If not for an own goal, the USA would not have scored. Italy won its first match and was never at risk of being eliminated in group play, especially with such a large goal difference in their first match. A draw was all they against the United States was all Italy needed to secure a place in the round of 16.
Knowing that Ghana was beating CZE from early on in their match, there was every reason for Italy to be conservative and play for a draw against the USA. A Ghana win agains CZE and a drw with the US assured Italy of advancing out of group play.
My main point is that no one should think too much of the USA draw with Italy. the primary goal in group play is to move on, not to win every game in group play.
Buffon has a whole lot to do with why folks don't seem to score on Italy. Was even one goal by an opposing team scored on him in field play during the entire of the WC? I don't think so, but then the team preventing close encounters had a lot ot do with it also. [BTW, the guy that Zidane head butted, I wonder what gamesmanship -not sportsmanship to be sure- he was mouthing continually at Zidane during the match? No excuse for Zimzum 'cause he behaved unprofessionally, but I'm wondering just the same.]
You know something...that trophy does look like one of those supermarket honey-baked hams all wrapped up in gold tinfoil.
Sounds more like "et pourquoi"
"and why?"
