Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
Our FreeRepublic team of 351 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 85th place (with 908 active CPUs - 47,400 completed Work Units and nearly 8.5 million points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 19 folding threads)
I haven't had any points on EOC since 12:00 P.M. 7/10.
Missing about 2k.
I contacted Jason also. The 10 a.m. EOC update was still shorting me 600 pts. from overnight.
EOC Folding is down now for debugging.
The stats are currently closed while we make changes. They will be back up as soon as possible.
Irk! That took out my FAHMonitor as well-- just by accessing the little box, my page would get hijacked to Baghdad Bob.
FAH Monitor is patched now, pending EOC's return.
EOC is back up now.
OK, I put them back in. Thanks!
And what a boost. After six weeks I've cracked the top 100 and am sitting at #97. All eight machines are merrily folding away, and it looks like I might settle into a 500+ point 24 hour average.
Our average points per day hit an all-time high of 57,861.
Early morning bump.
Congrats!
You're catching up to me. Even with my big machine running (won't be back up this week after all), I think you out-produce me. Might take you a month or two to pass me by though.
So I'm going to have you nipping at my heels for awhile. I'd better get a new box up soon and a new HDD in the big laptop or you'll pass me.
To all:
Just put 2 Pentium D (Dual Core) 2.6 machines online and they are kicking the stuffing out of FAH.
Terrific!
We are #84 now and could overtake Forums.AMD.com with the next update (and move up to #83). TeamFirefox and China F@H will fall next -- in 2-3 days.

damn.
Oops. I mean, that's great!
;-)
He is a real PIMA so I haven't been in a hurry to do him any favors.
Another dual-core box is very tempting though....
Conflicted
Pronunciation: k&n-'flik-t&d
Function: adjective
: experiencing or marked by ambivalence or a conflict especially of emotions
{EX: Watching your boss drive off a cliff in your brand new Corvette}
The day I started folding I had the same trouble. I had installed the gee-whiz graphical client and it monopolized my OpenGL so I would have to stop folding in order to run any other application that needed OpenGL; mostly games.
Although I REALLY hated to lose the cool graphics, I bit the bullet and switched over to teh console client; chosing to run it as a service so it keeps going even when I'm logged off.
Here's my post explaining how to do that relatively painlessly. NOTE: I'm running under XP Pro, so modify your approach as necessary for your operating system.

When I downloaded the console .EXE, I put it right in the same folder where the graphical client was installed so it could find all of the work files the graphical client had been using. This is key to getting it to pick up where the graphical client left off.
Good luck!
Thanks. I'm giving that a try.
Still holding off on buying a new box. I am going to have to move soon and that has raised financial uncertainty. On top of that, my TV is dying and other major items should be replaced as well...very annoying.
I did buy something. I just bought a 500GB WD500KS hard drive as well as 2 Antec hard drive coolers and a 120mm Pro DBB fan for node2. Very unexciting.
I should know for sure by the end of the month what I will be able to get.
and it is only the 100th delay this year!
