The ***OFFICIAL*** Weekend Singles' Thread -- US and British Air Shows (July 7th - 9th 2006)
7th July 2006 | Snugs

Posted on 07/07/2006 3:25:44 PM PDT by snugs

The theme for this weekend is Air Shows and comparing them in the US and Britain. I have picked Biggin Hill Air Show which is an ex RAF Station which is now in private ownership but continues to have an annual Air Show.

I last visited the airshow in 2000 but a friend of mine attended this year. The following are extracts from this year's program.

Hi, snugs:

Sounds like a great topic. We're having Wings Over Pittsburgh this weekend, and since I work near the airport we've been seeing (and hearing) fighter jets flying near us in formation the last three days.

Won't be around much this weekend but will try to check in later. Have a great night!

As well as aircraft there are vintage cars and lorries displayed, I took a photo of this because it is lorry from the same village as the company that does our packing at work. In fact they are actually in the yard of their premises.

Also there was a balloon display

The air show in Britain is no longer just the aviation enthusiasts it is now a great family day out with funfairs, craft stalls, confectionery and of course food.

A lot of people take a packed lunch with them but for those that do not wish to there are vans selling burgers, hog roast and filled baguettes, ice creams etc.

In this year's program they actually published the price you could expect to pay for the food to stop some traders overcharging - great idea especially as we are trying to encourage these events to be family events such things as the catering prices need to be geared towards this.

A packed lunch or picnic would have things such as sandwiches or bread rolls with various fillings though chicken and ham are the most popular. If not sandwiches then pork pies or cooked chicken pieces and salad stuff such as lettuce tomato, cucumber and beetroot are other choices. Fruit pies and crisps (potato chips) are a must. If you have a cool box then often people will also bring yoghurt. In 2000 shape yoghurt were actually giving out free yoghurt at the show as a promotion.

Nowhereman will be along later posting about "Wings Over Pittsburgh" Airshow Now over to you - how does the above compare with your air shows and what is the typical food to either take with you or buy at these events.

Good evening - do you know anything about SD Memory Card? I deleted some files from it and put it back into my camera and it told me it was locked. I have checked and slide has not been altered and I can copy files to it on the computer but when in the camera it shows it is locked.

I have put my other memory card into the camera and that is OK.

Any ideas?

Check the side for a read-write switch.

Some cards have a little piece of plastic that makes the card read-only.

The military air shows that I went to as a kid back in the '60's were always great!

I'm really not sure--the only thing I used SD cards were in those inexpensive MP3 players.

If I had to make a guess though, I'd say it's either a damaged card or a fried switch within the device.

I suspect that maybe it is the latter - thanks

£1.20 for a cup of coffee and £2.80 or a hot dog!

That's almost $2.25 and more than $5.00 respectively!

That's highway airway robbery.
