LONDON (AFP) - British film star Keira Knightley made no apologies for her slender figure at the European premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" in her hometown London. ADVERTISEMENT
The 21-year-old A-lister wore a revealing gold Gucci dress slashed to the waist that had some onlookers wondering if she was bowing to Hollywood pressure to be super-skinny.
"Whatever people say about my weight they are all wrong," she told reporters on her way into the premiere, which was also attended by her fellow "Pirates" stars Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.
"Hollywood is all about the way you look and I don't think that's the healthy thing for anyone. But if you're strong and comfortable with yourself then you're going to be fine."
In a BBC radio interview earlier Monday, Knightley recalled how the Hollywood premiere of "Pirates" at squeaky-clean Disneyland was alcohol-free, which she called "outrageous and really unexpected".
"I got in there and went, 'I'd like a beer please' and they said, 'Oh no, sorry, there's no alcohol in Disneyland'. I said, 'What? I'm British, are you mad?' So yes, tonight (at the London premiere) should be good."
I don't think drugs is the problem here. She's just jumped on the anorexic actress bandwagon and will quickly learn it gets you lots of press to keep your career going.
But ofcourse since she's reached "A-list", she's had a crash course in the #1 rule in the entertainment industry where attention spans are measured in nanoseconds.
"No publicity is bad publicity."
Even if you have issues with eating disorders, drugs, sexual deviancy, anger management, psychosis, self destructive behaviors, etc, etc.....
As long as you maintain A-list, any of these/combination of these, your going to get paid and gets lots of attention.
She moved up really quickly to A-list thats for sure, which tells me she's in for a big fast downfall. Bend it like Beckham made her a star, even though she wasn't even the lead.
Her career is based entirely on her looks and the fact she has a english accent. But she was a fresh face and got her roles in hollywood, as well as the british film industry which is rare these days.
She even admited in an interview that a british actresses biggest problem is getting roles in "non-corset" movies. Meaning those British produced ultra boring love story period pieces where all the women are wearing corsets and its set 80 years or more ago.
In acting/Hollywood the normal rules of "career physics" don't apply -- similar to the road runner cartoons. But you still need the basic skills. There are at least a hundred thousand women in L.A. better looking than her. Last time I was there, one of them served me pasta and thanked me for the generous tip.
It's a freaky business. Those who don't have their heads together, talent or no talent, get their butts handed to them.
Eventually found the French Champagne, but headed back to the U. K. for a good ale.
All on Christmas Day.
Buy that girl some French bread, and Some Beef Wellington.
Would you like fries with that?
Yes, every year we see a new crop of "drama students" at the local Starbucks, hoping to make it big. They usually get deep into debt before heading back home (if they are smart)
She's always been flat and always thin- but not that frickin thin! Yikes! Someone give the girl a BigMac or something!
Health is everything and she does not look healthy.
Indeed.

I'm of two minds on that - is it better to take the shot and fail or to never take the shot and wonder about it? Maybe it's a coin toss.

You would think, but unfortunately, not for everyone.
"The 21-year-old A-lister wore a revealing gold Gucci dress
There are lists of acresses by bra size?"
Looks like she doesn't have enough to wear one.
Maybe the filming, a year, was a little too rigorous.
The original premier was at Disneyland, not DisneyWorld, where Epcot is.
All of Disneyland (not counting the new California Adventure second park) would fit inside the lagoon at Epcot.
There's alcohol served at lots of places in the parks at DisneyWorld, but I believe that there's only one place in Disneyland where alcohol is served and that's a private (semi secret) club in the buildings surrounding Pirates of the Caribbean. You would think they'd have taken one of their stars up there if she really wanted a drink.
I second the recommendation to do a pub crawl at Epcot. Have a Tsing Tao at the 9 Dragons restaurant in China, then a Dos XX at the Mexican pavilion. Canada probably serves a Molson then you can continue around to the Rose & Crown in England. I don't think the French would offer you beer, nor the Moroccans, but I bet the restaurants at the Japan pavilion offer Kirin.
At MGM Studios they have several restaurants that serve alcohol. My favorite place is a bar above the Brown Derby restaurant called The Catwalk.
Can you buy alcohol in the Magic Kingdom here in Florida?
I'm a serious Disney fanatic but I don't know. I do know you can get plenty in EPCOT. I love, love, love the frozen margaritas from Mexico but I don't normally drink at any other Disney park.
Disneyland is like a big Magic Kingdom so perhaps one cannot get a drink in either.....
GG
I think the only place you can get alcohol in the Magic Kingdom is in the restaurant IN the castle... Wine and beer IIRC.
