Help - I am having trouble with my computer (Internet browser)
06/24/06 | Perdogg

Posted on 06/24/2006 4:34:43 PM PDT by Perdogg

Currently I am running Internet Explorer Version 6.0 and sometimes when I access website, it briefly crashes. Some commercial sites I cannot see particular scripts that run in the front.

Also, When I go to websites such as wwtdd.com I cannot see inline videos. All I see is the quicktime symbol with a big question mark.

I believe I have the latest version of quicktime and the latest version of Flash 8.0.

Any suggestions (other than get off the internet)?

Common questions:

Have you run a virus checker?
Have you run spyware checker?
Have you recently installed any other program?
When did the problem start?
What Windows version?
What other programs are running in the background?

"Currently I am running Internet Explorer Version 6.0..."

There's your problem. Download Firefox at
http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-1.5.0.4&os=win&lang=en-US

>Have you run a virus checker?

I run Norton everynight

>Have you run spyware checker?

I run Microsoft

>Have you recently installed any other program?

I had to reinstall quicktime about a month ago, installed
Winrar demo and flash-8.

>When did the problem start?

Don't know for sure.

>What Windows version?
XP

>What other programs are running in the background?

I have a bunch of programs related to Norton and some I don't know.

Also the strange thing that I have noticed is, my temporary internet file has subfiles that copies files
in the Content.IE5 folder.

I've got an almost identical problem. If I download Firefox, will it conflict with all my Norton protections? (I am no computer genius, as you may expect.)

Unless it is improved, I had trouble with that and had to uninstall it.

dump the cache, temp files, cookies and temp internet files and depending on O/S run windows exporer repair tool out of the add/delete funtion within the control pannel. Go into the objects function in the windows explorer properties and see if there are any error messages.

That's how I would start.

If you don't like post # 3 suggestion,

get an ISP signup CD in the checkout lane (AOL, Blue light, People to people, etc)& reload IE 6 from it

The newer versions have been practically flawless. As opposed to Internet Explorer, full of bugs, holes and security issues, it is marvelous. I run Norton System Works with all Norton functionality, ZoneAlarm Pro, etc. and have no conflicts. You may have other issues if Firefox won't work.

In addition to Microsoft Spyware checker, run Spybot and then AdAware to find the remaining unfound spyware that the first ones missed. Yes, it takes all 3 to catch it all.

Flash could also be a problem. Any DEMO software should be removed to see if that causes the problem.

Make sure your Windows XP is up to date with all the bug fixes, which are plentiful.

Remove all those BS programs in you program folder in the control pannel. Things like Weatherbug and all those hotbars etc tend to screw with your browser.

Yes. I can view it just fine. Let me go back and see what it requires. I'll be right back.

Uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer, for starters. That may do it.

I use Firefox and strongly prefer it to IE. Maybe you will, too. Try it.

Does the video screen ask you to download plug-ins? Are you blocking everything? There is probably a setting that needs to be changed.

One more suggestion. Stay off the porn sites (they're buggy as heck).
